Finland Convicts a Streamer of a Gambling Crime for Casino PromosA rare criminal hit on a gambling influencer A district court in North Savo, Finland, on June 18 convicted Jouko "Pottukoira" Kärkkäinen, 44, of a gambling offense for marketing casinos other than the state monopoly Veikkaus to Finnish audiences on his website, Instagram and Kick between May 2023 and February 2024. The court imposed 80 day-fines totaling about $2,700 (€2,480), plus a roughly $90 surcharge.

Kärkkäinen denied wrongdoing, arguing his streams were entertainment rather than commercial marketing, were not aimed at Finland, and that he did not control the website carrying the casino links. The court rejected that, pointing to repeated Finnish-language promotions - such as "150 free spins for just €10" - posted beside links to his site, and held that a gambling-marketing conviction does not require proof the promoter was paid or benefited; his purpose to promote the operators was enough.

The case is unusual mainly for its visibility. Finnish influencers have promoted offshore casinos for years, but enforcement has run through administrative channels - including a roughly $27,000 conditional fine the National Police Board imposed on Kärkkäinen in 2024, upheld on appeal, after which he relocated to Estonia to keep working with foreign operators.

Ethereum Validators May Redirect Up to 10% of Staking Rewards, If the Validator Approves

Ethereum validators could soon play a direct role in funding ecosystem development under a new proposal that would allow up to 10% of staking rewards to be redirected toward public goods, infrastructure, and research projects. 

The idea aims to solve Ethereum’s funding challenge as concerns grow over the future financing of Ethereum’s core development efforts.

What the Proposal Wants to Change
The proposal, titled Validator Redirected Revenue, was introduced by Ethereum researcher Clement Lesaege and contributors as a potential protocol-level funding mechanism. 

It says that Ethereum suffers from a “free-rider problem,” where everyone benefits from ecosystem improvements, but few are willing to fund them.

Under the proposal, validators would vote on how much of their staking rewards should be redirected to ecosystem funding. If more than 51% of validators support a non-zero contribution, the selected rate would become mandatory for all validators. The maximum redirect rate would be capped at 10%, while validators could also vote to keep it at zero.

The proposal states that, “If 51% of validators signal a redirect rate above 0, the contribution becomes mandatory for all validators.”

Why Ethereum Funding Is Becoming a Concern
According to Lesaege, Ethereum has a funding problem where many important projects struggle to get support, even though they benefit the entire network.

The proposal says validators already have a reason to support Ethereum’s growth. As network activity increases, demand for ETH can rise, more ETH can be burned, and the value of staked ETH may increase.

The development comes after a prolonged period of consolidation gave way to a breakdown below key support levels.

Technical Breakdown and Key Levels

XRP has been in a steady downtrend after losing the crucial $1.28 support level on its daily chart. The decline accelerated, pushing the price as low as $1.05 without a significant rebound. Currently, XRP is trading below its 50-day, 100-day, and 200-day moving averages, which now serve as firm resistance overhead. This configuration typically signals a bearish outlook in the short term.

However, a notable increase in trading volume accompanied the recent plunge, a pattern that often indicates the market may have absorbed a substantial portion of the selling pressure. This absorption, combined with signs that panic selling is subsiding, suggests the downward momentum is weakening.

RSI and Momentum Indicators

The Relative Strength Index (RSI), a widely followed momentum oscillator, has moved out of oversold territory and is attempting a rebound. This shift indicates that selling pressure may be exhausting itself, and buyers are beginning to step in at these lower levels. The RSI’s movement is a key factor in the analysis that a bottom may be forming.

What This Means for Traders
