Blockstream CEO Adam Back, a cryptographer with as much Bitcoin pedigree as anyone, told Bloomberg that the fears are overblown. He didn't see a bearish signal. He saw a maturing treasury operation.

Back's argument cuts directly into the market's reflexive worry. The sale wasn't a liquidation born of desperation. It was a cash management decision- one that reduces leverage rather than piles it on. By paying preferred stock dividends with Bitcoin instead of tapping debt markets or diluting equity, Strategy is demonstrating that its asset isn't just a speculative cushion. It's a working piece of corporate finance. That distinction matters more than the transaction size.

Secret Network bridge exploited for $4.7M with ‘infinite mint’ bugAn attacker has used an “infinite mint” bug in a vulnerable smart contract on the Secret Network to create unbacked, wrapped versions of Axelar-wrapped assets, resulting in a $4.67 million exploit.

The exploit happened on June 10 but was discovered a week later on June 17, after a failed cross-chain transaction caused by an “insufficient funds” error in the drained account was detected, blockchain research firm Common Prefix reported on Friday.

The attacker redeemed the Axelar-wrapped assets (saTokens) back over legitimate channels to drain the real Axelar-wrapped assets held in escrow because the smart contract did not verify the source of the inbound transfer before minting, so “deposits forged over an attacker-controlled channel minted genuine saTokens with no assets backing them,” Common Prefix said.

It is the latest in a series of crypto protocol hacks and exploits this month, which now number at least 22, according to DeFiLlama. The Secret Network was one of the largest, behind the Humanity Protocol and Syscoin Bridge, which lost $32 million and $8 million, respectively, earlier this month.

The Secret Network is a privacy-focused, layer-1 blockchain built on the Cosmos ecosystem, and Axelar is a decentralized interoperability network that connects different blockchain ecosystems.

The Axelar-wrapped assets minted without backing in the exploit included saUSDT, saUSDC, saDAI, saWETH, saWBTC, saWBNB and sawstETH.

The attacker moved the exploited assets to the Ethereum blockchain and converted them to Ether (ETH). They then split the haul between around 30 wallets, eventually depositing the funds into exchanges including KuCoin, ChangeNow, and HitBTC, according to Common Prefix.

China, one of the largest economies, reduced its U.S. Treasury holdings in April, reaching an 18-year low.

According to data recently released by the U.S. Treasury Department, China sold part of its U.S. Treasuries in April, reducing its holdings from $652.3 billion in March to $651.1 billion in April, the lowest since September 2008. This marks the third consecutive month of net selling, trimming holdings by $43.3 billion.
The sales came during a period when the conflict in the Middle East still raged on, a factor that could have influenced this move, as inflation and other concerns impacted the U.S. economy’s outlook.

Another factor that could have influenced this move was the uncertain role of Kevin Warsh, the newly appointed Chair of the Federal Reserve, and his deep links to President Donald Trump. Those concerns have been at least partly mitigated since Warsh recently supported a decision to maintain interest rates, a policy that differs from Trump’s ultra-dovish desires for sub-1 % rates as part of his economic action plan.

With this reduction, China maintains its position as the third-largest foreign holder of US debt, falling behind Japan and the U.K.

Nonetheless, China opposed international market trends, as other holders increased their ownership of U.S Treasuries during the same period. The total U.S. debt held by foreign actors grew to $9.35 trillion, the second-highest number recorded.

The milestone was supported by increased demand from countries like Japan, which held $1.21 trillion in April, and the U.K., which held $937.5 billion in the same period.

For years, users looking to speed up their transactions on the Bitcoin blockchain relied on a handy optional feature that essentially says, "I might want to replace this transaction with a higher fee."

But what started as a helpful tool has become redundant and a small privacy issue, prompting some developers to discuss possible ways to do away with it.

Let's first take a look at the so-called replace-by-fee (RBF) signaling, then discuss the developers' proposals.

Imagine sending a paper check through the mail, but the postal system is stretched and congested. To ensure your payment doesn't get stuck, the check has a small checkbox that says, "I reserve the right to cancel this check and write a new one with a higher rush fee if it gets delayed." (The higher fee, of course, is an incentive for the postal system to prioritize your transaction.)

Such a feature is called Replace-by-Fee (RBF) in the Bitcoin ecosystem. For years, when you sent bitcoin, your wallet let you flip a switch, signaling to the network that you might want to "fee-bump" to speed up your transaction later.

This optionality became the standard network policy recently. The network by default began treating every transaction as replaceable at a higher fee regardless of whether the user opted in for a replacement.

Because the entire network now handles transaction replacements automatically, the explicit "replace later" signaling in Bitcoin wallets has become redundant — a vestigial piece of code that leaves unnecessary digital fingerprints of the wallet involved in the transaction.

So, developers are proposing a code change to remove this signaling mechanism from the wallet software.
