Franklin proposes ETF that reinvests stock dividends into Bitcoin exposure

Franklin Templeton has filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to launch a new exchange-traded fund that would convert stock dividends into Bitcoin exposure. This offers investors a hybrid strategy that combines large-cap U.S. equities with systematic BTC accumulation.

The proposed product, called the Franklin US Equity Bitcoin DRIP Index ETF, seeks to track the VettaFi US Large-Cap 500 Bitcoin DRIP Index, according to a June 18 filing.

What’s next for ASTER?

On the 12-hour price charts, ASTER momentum was bearish, meaning that short-sellers still had market dominance.

However, dragging the price 24% lower, ASTER was close to its June support level of $0.60. If the broader correction deepens, then an extended pullback to $0.55 couldn’t be overruled. 
Hence, the $0.55 and $0.60 could act as key supports in case of a potential relief in the near term.  

That said, if a relief rally ensues, the immediate upside target would be the 200-day MA (Moving Average, blue) currently at $0.70. That would imply a 16% upside potential, especially if the 5B ASTER token burn program kicks off.

Ethereum: ‘Zero chance of a funding crisis happening for ETH,’ says Tom Lee
Bitmine chairman Tom Lee has downplayed the recent fears that the Ethereum Foundation may not be able to fund upcoming network upgrades. 

In a response on Friday, Lee dismissed the concerns, noting that funding has been secured. 

In my opinion, zero chance of this ‘crisis’ happening for $ETH. Zero. Funding secured.

The latest FUD stemmed from a revelation by former Ethereum core protocol contributor Trent Van Epps that the network could face a funding crisis in the next three to nine months. 

According to Van Epps, about $30M is needed annually to ensure Ethereum’s smooth running, including core protocol updates, primarily overseen by the Ethereum Foundation.

For him, this limited funding can’t address Ethereum’s complexity as the foundation cuts expenditure and talent. 

Worth noting that the recent changes are part of founder Vitalik Buterin’s push to have other entities take over the stewardship of the network. Buterin had previously maintained that the Ethereum Foundation was not “designed to be an eternal steward.” 

So far, several top executives and core protocol contributors have left the foundation, further raising concerns about the future of the chain. In fact, others were worried that even the transition into the post-quantum era could be affected too.

'Retire It and Move On': Bloomberg Tells MSTR to Drop STRC


The depegging of STRC, the software-giant-turned-Bitcoin-hoarder's much-talked-about funding vehicle, STRC, has become the hottest topic within the cryptocurrency community, and Eric Balchunas, Bloomberg senior ETF analyst, now believes that the funding vehicle has to be abandoned by the company.

"I would retire it and move on. Just feels like an ongoing thorn in the side of the co and broader community. They were doing fine w out it," he said.

The anxiety-inducing acronym

The acronym STRC, which used to be known only to a relatively small cohort of avid MSTR followers, has become a major flashpoint of anxiety.

STRC is Strategy's variable-rate perpetual preferred stock. It is issued with a stated face value of $100 per share. The asset, which was notably designed with the help of OpenAI's generative model ChatGPT, pays an annualized dividend rate of 11.50% that adjusts every month.

Recently, the asset reached a major breaking point, plunging to as low as $88.51, recording a discount of more than 11%.

Now, the concern is that this will create a rather dangerous feedback loop with Bitcoin itself. Ted Pillows, a prominent market commentator, has noted that Bitcoin has now found a new asset to correlate with (STRC). "Since STRC lost its peg, Bitcoin has been going down only," he said. His main reasoning is that the market expects Saylor to sell BTC to raise cash so that STRC holders can gain some confidence.

Analyst André Dragosch, PhD has noted that the broader bond market forces are working against Saylor. He has argued that either Saylor needs to raise the dividend or the Fed needs to ease monetary policy again to reverse the rise in Treasury yields, which is unlikely.

At the same time, high-conviction Bitcoin bulls believe that the STRC discount will be only a temporary liquidity crunch.
