XRP Secures Third-Largest Allocation in SEC-Approved T. Rowe Price Active Crypto ETF
The U.S. SEC has approved the launch of T. Rowe Price’s Active Crypto ETF, with XRP emerging as one of the fund’s most significant holdings.

Specifically, the SEC approved a rule change filed by NYSE Arca on June 12, allowing the exchange to list shares of the actively managed crypto fund. The ETF will provide institutional investors with exposure to a diversified basket of digital assets, including XRP, Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, Cardano, and Dogecoin. 

Notably, XRP is not merely included in the fund, but ranks as the third-largest asset in the portfolio. According to the index weightings assigned on Jan. 8, 2026, Bitcoin accounts for 41.87% of the basket, while Ethereum holds an 18.55% allocation. XRP follows as the third-largest holding with an 11.42% weighting.

Interestingly, XRP commands a larger allocation than several prominent cryptocurrencies, including Solana (8.66%), Dogecoin (4.51%), Bitcoin Cash (3.69%), and Cardano (3.46%). This substantial weighting highlights XRP’s importance within the ETF’s investment strategy.

Crypto markets held steady on Tuesday even as Japan lifted interest rates to a three-decade high amid rising domestic inflation.

The Bank of Japan’s policy board raised its benchmark interest rate to around 1% in a 7-1 vote, with the new guideline effective June 17. Policymakers flagged a risk of inflation rising above a 2% target as higher oil prices feed through to consumer goods, with further hikes expected.

A relief rally lifted crypto markets after President Trump announced a deal with Iran over the weekend, easing the tensions which the Bank of Japan had tied to rising oil prices. The deal moved Bitcoin above $65,000 from the low $60,000s. A signing is expected on Friday.

At time of publication, Bitcoin is trading around $66,000, down 1.1% on the day, per CoinGecko data. Traders on prediction market Myriad, owned by Decrypt’s parent company Dastan, remain predominantly bearish on its outlook, placing a 64% chance on Bitcoin’s next move taking it to $55,000.

The crypto market is showing signs of recovery, and talk of a new altcoin season is returning. However, one analyst says investors may be overlooking a major factor that could keep many altcoins under pressure in the months ahead.

Over the next six months, roughly $5 billion worth of insider-held tokens will enter circulation across smart contract platforms, AI projects, and DeFi protocols. Demand is returning to the market, but this new supply could make it harder for many altcoins to maintain strong rallies.

A Different Market Than 2021
According to the analysis, today’s market structure is very different from the environment that fueled the explosive altcoin rally in 2021.

Back then, many leading tokens already had most of their supply circulating. As demand increased, there were relatively few new coins entering the market, allowing prices to rise rapidly.

The next unlock wave is already underway. According to CryptoRank, more than $670.7 million worth of tokens are scheduled to be unlocked during the third week of June alone. Some of the largest unlocks include SPK ($51.45 million), ZRO ($27.11 million), STBL ($11.19 million), KAITO ($8.55 million), ARB ($8.02 million), VANA ($7.19 million), and GWEI ($6.70 million).

Altcoin Optimism Still Remains
Despite the concerns around token unlocks, sentiment across the broader altcoin market continues to improve.

The Altcoin Season Index has climbed to 51, suggesting capital is gradually rotating beyond Bitcoin. Crypto analyst Michaël van de Poppe noted that Bitcoin’s recent consolidation is helping liquidity flow into altcoins.
