Technical Picture: The 20-Day EMA as a Key Hurdle

The 20-day EMA has acted as a dynamic resistance level for EUR/USD since the pair broke below it earlier this month. The inability to reclaim this moving average suggests that sellers remain in control, with each attempt to rally meeting fresh supply. The 20-day EMA currently sits near the 1.0780 region, and a sustained move above it would be the first sign of a potential trend shift.

On the downside, immediate support is seen at the 1.0720 area, a level that has held during recent intraday dips. A break below this zone could open the path toward the 1.0680 level, which marks the low from late March. The Relative Strength Index (RSI) remains in neutral territory, offering no clear directional signal, while the Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) indicator is hovering near its signal line, reflecting the ongoing indecision.

Fundamental Drivers: Fed Policy in Focus

The primary catalyst for the next directional move in EUR/USD is the Federal Reserve’s interest rate decision and the accompanying economic projections. Bitcoin is again testing one of crypto macro’s favorite assumptions: that rising global liquidity eventually pulls BTC higher. According to the June 16 writing handoff, global M2 liquidity has crossed a record $135 trillion, while Bitcoin remains far below its October 2025 peak and trades near the mid-$60,000 area.

That divergence is attracting attention because Bitcoin has often moved with global liquidity across prior cycles. When money supply expands, risk appetite and asset prices tend to improve. But this time, the relationship appears less direct.

The Catch-Up Rally Argument
The bullish interpretation is simple. Bitcoin is lagging, not breaking. Under that view, liquidity is still a powerful force, but it takes time to move from central banks and banking systems into risk assets. If the old relationship holds, BTC may eventually catch up as capital rotates from cash, bonds, and large-cap equities into higher-beta assets.

That argument has worked in parts of previous cycles. Bitcoin often looks disconnected until liquidity reaches the parts of the market willing to take more risk. Traders who follow global M2 models therefore see the current gap as a potential setup rather than a warning.

All of it comes with a sobering price tag: a roughly $50 billion near-term funding gap standing between the sector’s pipeline ambitions and actual delivery.

In a research note, VanEck investment analyst Griffin MacMaster and Head of Digital Assets Research Matthew Sigel laid out what they describe as the first structured valuation approach for the increasingly blurry category of companies that straddle both Bitcoin mining and AI data center hosting.

With financial disclosures varying widely across the sector and cash flows still nascent, VanEck argues the cleanest metric available to investors right now is gross energized power — essentially, how many megawatts a company has actually switched on, not just announced.

The gap between those two things is already telling. Companies that have physical leases in hand — including Cipher Mining (CIFR), Hut 8 (HUT), and TeraWulf (WULF) — are commanding valuations above 10x gross energized power.

Meanwhile, names like Marathon Digital (MARA) and CleanSpark (CLSK), which remain more closely tied to Bitcoin mining with limited contracted AI capacity, are trading at just 2–6x that same metric.

“For now, we find that the market is paying for contracted and energized capacity, while discounting everything still in the pipeline,” the analysts wrote.

The transaction, observed on-chain, is part of the standard operational process for managing the firm’s ETF product, typically used to facilitate share redemption settlements tied to fund outflows.

Understanding the On-Chain Transfer

Large-scale transfers between ETF issuers and custodial or prime brokerage platforms like Coinbase Prime are routine in the digital asset management space. These moves are often triggered by investor redemptions: when GBTC shares are redeemed, the corresponding Bitcoin must be liquidated or transferred to cover the settlement. Grayscale has historically used Coinbase Prime as a key execution and custody partner.

The deposit of 1,863 BTC does not necessarily indicate a mass sell-off, but it does signal that Grayscale is actively managing its Bitcoin inventory in response to net fund flows. According to public data, GBTC has experienced intermittent outflows since its conversion to a spot ETF in January 2024, although the pace has slowed compared to earlier months.
