Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent's call for the Fed to hold off on rate cuts reflects a problem that reaches far beyond Washington: war-driven inflation is keeping the door to cheaper money shut.

Reuters reported that Bessent urged caution because the Iran conflict is lifting fuel costs and complicating the inflation outlook. The Fed's own March minutes told pretty much the same story: officials warned that higher oil prices could lift inflation in the near term, delay the return to 2%, and, if sustained, pass through into core prices. Futures markets had already shifted toward fewer cuts, with no reduction fully priced until December at that time.
When crude rises because of geopolitical conflict, gasoline, shipping, food production, and logistics all get more expensive, and inflation can climb even in an economy that isn't running hot.
That leaves the Fed trapped: cut too early and risk validating higher prices, or hold rates and risk squeezing consumers and businesses that are already struggling. Officials acknowledged the tension explicitly, noting that inflation risks had increased while employment risks were tilting to the.

The crypto market's most powerful bullish narrative over the past year has been that weakening growth and softening inflation would force the Fed to ease, driving liquidity into risk assets. An oil shock disrupts every link in that chain. Growth fears rise, but the Fed still hesitates because inflation isn't cooperating, and Bitcoin loses a macro tailwind it has leaned on repeatedly during past easing cycles.

Former CFTC Chair Chris Giancarlo goes full-time as a tech and crypto advisor
Giancarlo, who earned the nickname “Crypto Dad” while serving as CFTC chairman between 2017 and 2019, most recently served as senior counsel at white-shoe law firm Willkie Farr & Gallagher.

Crypto Dad has advised several firms since leaving public office, including Polymarket and Paxos.

Former Commodity Futures Trading Commission Chairman Chris Giancarlo is retiring from law to go full-time as a corporate crypto and tech advisor. The former regulator, who earned the nickname "Crypto Dad" while in office, most recently served as senior counsel at white-shoe law firm Willkie Farr & Gallagher.

"From here on, I’ll devote my time to advising founders & builders of #FinTech & #DigitalAssets and their CEOs and boards, research & writing on public policy issues, and continuing work with non-profit programs such as @Digital_Dollar_ Project, the Mike Gill Memorial Society and other philanthropy," Giancarlo said in a message on X. 

Giancarlo, who served as the CFTC lead from 2017 to 2019, was known for his largely proactive and positive approach to crypto regulation at a time when federal authorities were largely ambivalent or skeptical about the burgeoning sector.

As CFTC Chair, Giancarlo oversaw the launch of the world's first federally regulated Bitcoin futures markets, allowing self-certification of BTC derivatives by CME Group and Cboe Futures Exchange. He also established LabCFTC, the agency’s innovation unit.

Since serving in the CFTC, which he joined as a commissioner in 2014 with an appointment by then-President Barack Obama, Giancarlo has advocated for the establishment of a "Digital Dollar," a tokenized, digital form of the greenback issued directly by the Federal Reserve.

In a latest development, UK-based Bitcoin treasury firm Stack BTC, led by former Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng, has confirmed a new acquisition linked to Nigel Farage.

The company purchased 37 BTC, worth approximately £2 million, on behalf of Farage. With this transaction, Stack BTC’s total holdings have increased to 68 BTC.

In a post on X, the firm described Farage as the first sitting MP and UK party leader to have publicly disclosed acquiring Bitcoin.

This development follows an earlier investment made by Farage roughly one month ago, when he reportedly invested £215,000 in Stack BTC through his media company, Thorn In The Side Ltd. That investment gave him an estimated 6.3% stake in the firm.

In a parallel move, Capital B has further expanded its Bitcoin treasury, acquiring 37 BTC for approximately €2.3 million.

This latest purchase brings the company’s total holdings to 2,925 BTC, reinforcing its position as one of Europe’s largest corporate Bitcoin treasuries. The firm, listed on Euronext Growth in France, continues to prioritize Bitcoin accumulation as a core strategy.

Additionally, Capital B reported a year-to-date Bitcoin yield of 1.25% and a net gain of 35.3 BTC.

The acquisition was funded through a combination of convertible bond conversions and new share issuance. It includes participation from Blockstream Capital Partners and UTXO Management.

The company’s average purchase price now stands at €92,096 per Bitcoin, bringing its total investment cost to €269.4 million.

Rising Optimism Could Be a Warning Sign
Crypto analyst Max, writing on X, argues that the return of bullish sentiment may actually indicate that Bitcoin has not yet reached a true market bottom.
According to his analysis, history shows that when optimism begins to slowly return after deep corrections, markets often still have further downside ahead. In his view, premature confidence has repeatedly appeared during mid-cycle recoveries rather than at final bottoms.
Key Bottom Signals Still Missing
Max highlights that several important technical conditions associated with past Bitcoin cycle lows have not yet appeared, including:
Full capitulation events
Multiple retests and breakdowns of recent lows
A confirmed structural trend reversal on the weekly timeframe
Without these signals, he argues, it is difficult to confirm that a durable bottom has been established.
Historical Cycle Patterns Suggest Longer Correction
Looking at previous Bitcoin cycles, bear market phases have consistently lasted around one year following major cycle peaks:
2013 peak → ~427 days of decline
2018 peak → ~365 days of decline
2021 peak → ~365 days of decline
While each cycle has shown diminishing drawdowns over time, the duration of corrections has remained relatively consistent.
Based on this historical structure, Max suggests that the current cycle—starting from the October 2025 peak—may still be following a similar timeline.

Ethereum Price Prediction as Bitmine Nears 5% of Total ETH Supply


Bitmine Immersion Technologies Ethereum holdings reached 4,874,858 $ETH as of April 12, equal to 4.04% of the circulating supply of 120.7 million $ETH. The company valued those holdings at about $10.7 billion based on an $ETH price of $2,206, while total crypto, cash, and other investments stood at $11.8 billion.

The update placed Bitmine close to its stated target of acquiring 5% of Ethereum’s total supply after nine months of accumulation. The company also said 3.33 million $ETH is already staked, creating annualized staking revenue of about $212 million.

Bitmine Treasury Expands as Ethereum Holdings Cross 4.8M

Bitmine led the latest market update with a larger Ethereum treasury and a broader balance sheet that now includes cash, Bitcoin, and equity stakes. The company's total holdings reached $11.8 billion, made up of 4,874,858 $ETH, 198 BTC, $719 million in cash, a $200 million stake in Beast Industries, and an $85 million stake in Eightco Holdings. At the reported level, Bitmine remains the largest corporate Ethereum treasury and trails only Strategy among corporate crypto treasury holders.

The company also reported that it bought 71,524 $ETH over the past week, marking its fastest weekly pace of accumulation since late December 2025. That pushed Bitmine to about 81% of its stated goal of securing 5% of Ethereum’s circulating supply.

The update came days after Bitmine moved from the NYSE American to the New York Stock Exchange, a step the company paired with the launch of its Made in America Validator Network, or MAVAN.
