A crypto scam posing as the official Ledger Live hardware wallet app passed Apple’s App Store review process and drained at least $9.5 million from more than 50 victims across Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, Tron, and XRP between April 7 and April 13, with stolen funds routed through more than 150 KuCoin deposit addresses and into a centralized mixing service. Summary The three largest individual thefts were $3.23 million in USDT on April 9, $2.08 million in USDC on April 11, and $1.95 million in BTC, ETH, and stETH on April 8, with blockchain investigator ZachXBT tracing all stolen funds to deposit addresses linked to a mixing service called AudiA6, known for charging high fees to obscure illicit transactions. The attack worked by prompting users to enter their 24-word seed phrase into the fake app during what appeared to be a normal wallet setup flow; once a seed phrase is entered into any connected application, attackers gain full and immediate control of every wallet derived from it. Apple has removed the fake app from the App Store but has not publicly commented on how it passed the review process; ZachXBT separately reported that Apple appears to be blocking a security analysis tool from examining the fraudulent listing, which has complicated independent investigation. A report on the theft brought the incident to wide attention after ZachXBT published his on-chain analysis. One of the victims, posting on X under the handle @glove, was Philadelphia musician Garrett Dutton of G. The crypto regulation standoff over the CLARITY Act shifted Monday when White House crypto adviser Patrick Witt told an interviewer that negotiations have cleared most remaining obstacles and that he is confident the final issues can be resolved, saying “we’re very close to closing them out.” Summary Witt said the stablecoin yield dispute that dominated headlines for three months is largely settled under the Tillis-Alsobrooks framework, and that several other issues including DeFi rules and ethics provisions have made “considerable progress in the background.” The White House adviser would not specify which remaining issues have been closed, but said the fact that previously intractable problems were resolved gives him confidence that the outstanding ones will be too. Brad Garlinghouse has marked his 11th anniversary at the enterprise blockchain firm Ripple.

This has been a tumultuous but extremely rewarding tenure that saw him become a central figure in the fight for U.S. cryptocurrency regulation.

Garlinghouse has stressed that the industry's years-long regulatory battles are finally nearing a resolution following a series of high-level discussions in Washington, D.C.

"The fight has been worth it," he posted, noting recent conversations with several prominent lawmakers, including Senators Bill Hagerty, Tim Scott, and John Boozman, as well as an appearance at the Semafor World Economic Summit.

Garlinghouse's Ripple journey

Garlinghouse, who has held major executive roles at legacy tech giants AOL and Yahoo, was initially skeptical of the cryptocurrency industry after being approached by former Ripple CEO Chris Larsen.

He was intending to take a position at the ride-hailing company Uber.

Ultimately, Larsen convinced him that Ripple offered a chance to change the world in a more meaningful way.

Garlinghouse joined the firm as Chief Operating Officer in April 2015. He was then elevated to CEO the following year, replacing Larsen at the top job.

Over the past 11 years, Garlinghouse has become a billionaire and has emerged victorious from the battle with the SEC.

His CLARITY Act

In his anniversary post, Garlinghouse declared that the "CLARITY Act window is open," urging the industry that "now is our moment to act."

Garlinghouse has previously admitted that Ripple technically does not have a "big dog in this fight."

Since XRP has already been legally recognized as a non-security commodity by U.S. regulators, Ripple enjoys a level of legal certainty that many other crypto firms lack.
