Amid concerns that the U.S.–Iran war could drag on, the altcoin market remains in a bearish trend, with some tokens nearing all-time lows. Still, the view is that investors should prepare less for a short-term rebound and more for the possibility of further declines and heightened volatility.

As name-by-name divergence deepens in the altcoin (crypto assets other than Bitcoin) market, a structural downtrend has compounded the weakness, with more than 40% of all tokens found to be at or near all-time lows.
According to on-chain analytics platform CryptoQuant on the 4th, more than 40% of all altcoins were tallied as having reached or being close to their all-time lows. That exceeds the roughly 38% recorded in the previous bear market. The market is increasingly viewing the broad erosion of individual altcoins’ downside resilience as becoming structurally entrenched.

This trend goes beyond a simple demand contraction and is also tied to shifts in market structure. As new token issuance increases, liquidity has been dispersed more widely, intensifying the phenomenon of "liquidity dilution," in which the density of capital flowing into each individual token declines. A clearer pattern has also emerged in which funds concentrate in a handful of names, widening performance gaps across tokens.

Darkfost, a CryptoQuant analyst, said, "With more than 40% of all altcoins having hit or nearing all-time lows, this figure exceeds prior bear-market levels," adding that "during periods of extreme price weakness, attractive entry points can emerge, particularly for crypto projects with solid fundamentals."

Crypto has spent years obsessing over speed, fees and scalability. Now it may have to confront a more existential question: what happens when its core security breaks?

That question is moving from theory to urgency. Quantum computers, machines that use the principles of quantum physics to process information in fundamentally different ways than today’s computers, could eventually solve the kinds of mathematical problems that underpin modern encryption.

Discussions around post-quantum cryptography have intensified across the industry in recent weeks, especially after new research from Google and academic collaborators suggested that such systems could one day break widely used encryption, potentially cracking systems like Bitcoin’s in minutes rather than years.

While Bitcoin developers scramble to find a solution and Ethereum prepares for the event, Solana is trying to get ahead of that scenario.

Cryptography firm Project Eleven has teamed up with the Solana Foundation to experiment with post-quantum security, technology designed to withstand quantum attacks that could render today’s cryptography obsolete. The early work is already surfacing a difficult reality: making Solana quantum-safe may come at the expense of the performance that defines it.

In practice, that effort has meant moving beyond theory and into live testing. Project Eleven has worked with the Solana ecosystem to model how the network would behave if its current cryptography were replaced, including deploying a test environment using quantum-resistant signatures — the digital keys that authorize transactions. The goal is not just to prove the technology works, but to understand what breaks when it’s pushed to scale.

That rally, however, has given way to choppier price action, driven largely by conflicting whale activity against a fragile broader market backdrop.

Whale flows drive market tension

Recent on-chain data highlights the scale of this back-and-forth. Approximately 488,599 $HYPE, valued at $17.18 million at the time, moved from FalconX to a newly created wallet.

Transfers of this nature-out of exchanges and into private wallets-typically point to a longer-term holding strategy, as they reduce immediate sell-side liquidity. In isolation, the move leans bullish.

However, the transaction followed closely behind a sizeable sell-off of roughly 450,000 $HYPE, worth $15.52 million, executed within a similar window.

While the inflow marginally outweighs the outflow, the proximity of both transactions underscores the indecision among large holders.

Such visibility into whale positioning often shapes broader market behavior. Traders tend to mirror these flows, amplifying short-term volatility as liquidity shifts rapidly between buying and selling pressure.

The accumulation trend holds

Despite the recent sell-side activity, underlying data suggests that accumulation remains intact.
