Since hitting an all-time high of $69,000 in late 2021, Bitcoin has erased all its gains, falling below the $70,000 mark as selling pressure intensifies in both spot and derivatives markets.

The world's largest cryptocurrency, Bitcoin, reportedly fell as low as $69,040 on some exchanges on Thursday, its lowest level since October 2024. (The Block's price page).

As of press time, Bitcoin was down more than 8% on the day, down about 30% over the past year, and about 45% from its October high.

The bears continued their sell-off.

The market structure deteriorated sharply as it broke below $70,000, with on-chain metrics showing forced selling, weak spot demand, and waning institutional support.

Analysts at Glassnode stated that the market has entered a clear defensive phase, with realized losses accelerating as holders exit positions at a loss.

 "Spot Bitcoin trading volume remains structurally weak, reflecting a demand vacuum and a lack of sustained absorption of selling pressure," Glassnode analysts Chris Beamish and Antoine Colpaert wrote in a report.

The Bitcoin price drop has fallen below its True Market Mean—a key on-chain cost base metric that tracks the average acquisition price of active circulating supply. Glassnode stated that breaking below this level confirms a broader crash trend that has been brewing since late 2025, with the market increasingly resembling the early stages of previous bear market transitions.

However, on-chain data shows that early buying has accumulated between $70,000 and $80,000, with a dense cost base cluster around $66,900 to $70,600, which could act as a short-term buffer. Nevertheless, analysts warn that the currently high realized losses—averaging over $1.2 billion per day—indicate that panic selling remains active.
