Why this ex-Solana exec is using a Wall Street trick to level the playing field in DeFi


Austin Federa quit as the Solana Foundation's head of strategy in 2024 to tackle what he saw as unfairness in the crypto trading environment. Eighteen months later, his company, DoubleZero, says it's ready.

DoubleZero aims to eliminate proximity to an exchange's servers as a competitive advantage for traders. The private fiber network removes latency, the time it takes for an order to reach the platform from a trader's desk, as a factor and introduces a more equitable environment even though regulators — and traders — aren't asking for it yet.

The problem, Federa says, is that crypto conflates decentralized with distributed. DeFi protocols are decentralized by virtue of their open-source code and permissionless validator sets, but when milliseconds determine who wins a trade, the laws of physics push validators to cluster in the same data centers anyway. On platforms like Hyperliquid, for example, Tokyo-based traders enjoy a roughly 200-millisecond edge over rivals abroad.

"Hyperliquid may be a decentralized system from a governance and user perspective, but it is not a distributed system," Federa said in an interview with CoinDesk. "It is still co-located in the same environment, even if it's run by multiple different entities."

It's a problem traditional finance has already faced. When the New York Stock Exchange developed its Mahwah, New Jersey data center over a decade ago, it engineered cable-length equalization to within a nanosecond because asymmetric access was bad for business, not because regulators required it. Simply, traders who felt disadvantaged would route their orders elsewhere.

Institutional inflows into crypto exchange-traded funds (ETFs) are redefining how capital signals confidence in digital assets without directly improving network functionality. Evernorth examined $XRP ETF activity on April 14, highlighting a sharp increase in weekly inflows. The firm noted that roughly $120 million flowed into these funds last week, marking the strongest inflow since December 2025.

The surge indicates growing institutional confidence and demand for $XRP exposure through regulated investment vehicles. Evernorth stated on social media platform X: “That’s a meaningful signal. But it’s worth asking: what does that capital actually do once it arrives?” It continued:

“The next phase of institutional participation looks more like capital contributing to market depth, settlement efficiency and on-chain utility.”



The post emphasized that ETF inflows primarily represent passive exposure rather than operational engagement. It clarified that these vehicles acquire and hold $XRP without deploying it into blockchain-based financial activity. The thread reinforced that such capital validates the asset while not contributing to liquidity, lending, or on-chain settlement.

Even so, the rally brought a divergence between caution from analysts and confidence in the price structure.

Is $FARTCOIN about to break this level?

Despite the broader recovery, a crypto expert posted on X that it is the end of an era for $FARTCOIN alongside a bearish four-hour chart.

However, price action continued to tell a different story.

On the daily chart, $FARTCOIN approached the $0.225 resistance level, which has held firm since February 2026.

Historically, price has tested this level multiple times and faced strong selling pressure, leading to declines.

If momentum continues and price breaks above $0.225, $FARTCOIN could rally another 37% toward $0.312. However, failure to break this level could trigger another rejection, repeating past behavior.

That setup kept attention fixed on whether resistance would finally give way.

At press time, Chaikin Money Flow (CMF) stood at -0.06, while Money Flow Index (MFI) reached 57.06. These readings pointed to slight capital outflows, while buying pressure remained moderate.

In fact, the structure appeared balanced rather than showing a clear distribution. This suggested that momentum remained intact, though not strong enough to confirm a breakout yet.
