Crypto liquidations reached over $400 million on Thursday, 02 April. While the total liquidations measured $271.18 million on Wednesday, 01 April, figures for the same climbed to $456.19 million on Thursday.

Of these liquidations, $287 million were long and $169 million were short positions. Bitcoin’s [BTC] price drop below $66K on Thursday likely contributed to the short-term selling across the market.

Bitcoin’s funding rate also fell into negative territory on Thursday, but the same had climbed to +0.0008% at press time. The liquidation and funding rate data from CoinGlass revealed that BTC recorded the highest amount of liquidations in the last 24 hours, measuring $57.17 million.

Brief sentiment shift in mid-March was not enough

According to Crypto analyst Axel Adler Jr, the Bitcoin Positioning Index indicator’s 30-day moving average reached +3.0 on 17 March. The indicator measures the aggressiveness of market participants in the derivatives market.

The +3.0 reading highlighted bullish positioning, but BTC’s price correction over the last two weeks brought the positioning index back below zero. This hinted at more aggressive bearish positioning.

The crypto market is heavily influenced by Bitcoin trends. A return above zero for the Positioning Index’s 30-day moving average would be a positive sign for crypto bulls.

As things stand, short positioning is still dominant across the market.

Futures liquidations have been increasingly dominated by long liquidations. The dominance of short liquidations has been absent since October 2025. This alluded to the bearish strength in the market once again.

Crypto pundit Cryptoinsight has pointed to Google’s latest research on quantum computing, which discussed XRP. The report specifically highlighted the XRP Ledger and the network’s efforts to protect against quantum threats.

Google’s Latest Quantum Research Report Discusses XRP
In an X post, Cryptoinsight highlighted Google’s research report, which discussed XRP and the XRPL’s quantum efforts. He also noted that Google’s claim that 2/3 of the short-dated U.S. treasury bills are on the Ledger, while the majority of the remaining are on the Ethereum network.

In the quantum report, Google noted that the Ledger is among the networks conducting experimental and test deployments of post-quantum cryptography (PQC). The Ledger recently deployed post-quantum ML-DSA signatures on the testnet. The report also recognized how this was key as the Ledger provides “extensive support” for RWA tokenization.

RWA.xyz data shows that the XRP Ledger currently ranks 8th in terms of RWA tokenization, with a total tokenized value of $1.9 billion. The network boasts an RWA count of 289. Google noted that networks like the XRPL, which provide protocol-level support for RWA tokenization, introduce new quantum vulnerabilities not present in Bitcoin and its derivatives.

This is based on the account model and smart contracts that networks like the Ledger employ to support tokenization. Google indicated that this quantum risk will become more prevalent. This is because of financial developments, such as fiat-backed stablecoins and the tokenization of other RWAs, which are projected to significantly increase the pool of assets governed by smart contracts by 2030.

Soluna Holdings, a green Bitcoin mining firm, has acquired a West Texas-based Biscoe wind farm for $53M to scale its vertical integration.

The miner reported that this was part of its ‘Project Dorothy,’ which aims to help increase its renewable energy sources and green data centers. The move is expected to generate $20 million to $24.4 million in annual revenue.

Since last September, Soluna has been mining an average of nine BTC per month. Apart from BTC mining operations and AI data centers, Soluna also provides hosting services to other miners.

Interestingly, AI data centers have become a new lifeline for most public BTC miners. Besides Soluna, other players are doubling down on the AI pivot.

Some, like Bitdeer, sold their entire BTC stash and pivoted to AI. Likewise, Core Scientific, MARA, Bitfarms, and others continue to monetize holdings to prioritize AI infrastructure ventures.

Shrinking Bitcoin miner revenue fuels AI pivot
The AI pivot has accelerated as BTC dropped by half from over $126K to below $65K in the past few months.

Notably, the 2024 halving slashed miner rewards by half to 3.125 BTC. In the next 2028 halving, the block rewards will drop further to 1.5625 BTC; hence, miner revenue could shrink further if Bitcoin transactions do not improve.

As of early Q2 2026, the total daily miner revenue was $32 million, translating to a 50% drop from the H2 2025 high of nearly $60 million.

While this was a slight relief from the recent low of $29M seen in mid-March, the sub-sector was not out of the woods just yet.

The miner distress or capitulation, where miners turn off machines and sell BTC reserves because they are unable to cover operating costs, is back again.

Bitcoin has extended its decline into a sixth consecutive month after peaking at an all-time high of $126,000. While the correction is already substantial, on-chain and market data suggest it may not be over.

Price is approaching a critical support zone where a large share of long-term holders previously accumulated. A breakdown at this level could open the door to a move toward $50,000.

Institutional selling adds to downside risk
The recent 1% reduction in corporate Bitcoin [BTC] treasuries comes amid mounting pressures, including debt obligations and persistent market weakness. While modest in size, the shift is notable given the typically long-term orientation of institutional holders.

Recent disclosures tracked by AMBCrypto showed that at least four corporate entities reduced their Bitcoin exposure between March and early April.

Mara Holdings led the sell-off, liquidating 15,133 BTC valued at over $1 billion in March. Riot Platforms and Empery Digital followed, offloading a combined 2,295 BTC worth approximately $156 million as of the 2nd of April.

Despite these sales, corporate entities still control roughly 1.16 million BTC, valued at around $77 billion. However, this sizable position is increasingly vulnerable as Bitcoin trades near the aggregate cost basis of a key long-term holder cohort—one that overlaps with institutional accumulation levels.

Long-term holder cost basis comes into focus
On-chain data from the UTXO Realized Price Age Distribution highlights a critical development. The metric tracks the average acquisition price of Bitcoin across different holding periods, offering insight into investor positioning.

Current data shows Bitcoin nearing the $63,049 cost basis for holders who accumulated between 18 months and two years ago. This level now acts as a potential inflection point.
