Negative Funding Rates Hit Yearly High as Bitcoin Tests $76K

Bitcoin funding rates hit year-high negative levels, setting up a potential short squeeze-or bull trap-as its price tests $76K.

Bitcoin's recent rally toward $76,000 faces a dilemma, leaving investors split on its near-term outlook.

Funding rates for Bitcoin-a fee paid by derivatives traders to maintain the alignment between spot and futures prices-have remained negative for over a month and hit the highest level this year, according to Coinglass data.

The divergence between bearish derivatives positioning and bullish spot catalysts sets up a potential short squeeze-or a bull trap-depending on which side breaks first.

"Funding rates this negative tell you the market is heavily short," Daniel Reis-Faria, CEO of ZeroStack, told Decrypt.

ARB tests key resistance after sharp rebound



ARB rebounded from the $0.088 support zone and climbed steadily toward the $0.128 region, approaching the broader $0.14–$0.18 resistance range. 

The price structure showed a clear recovery pattern, with higher lows forming as buyers stepped in after the prolonged decline. 

This shift indicated that demand had started to absorb selling pressure near the bottom.

As ARB approached $0.14, it entered a zone where prior breakdowns had occurred, making this level a critical test for continuation. 

A move toward $0.18 would require sustained buying pressure and acceptance above intermediate resistance. However, failure to hold above $0.12 could expose the structure to renewed downside pressure. 

The DMI indicator showed that buyers maintained control, with the +DI holding above the -DI while the ADX remained elevated at 27. This configuration reflected sustained directional strength rather than a temporary shift. 

The decline in bearish pressure suggested that sellers had gradually lost dominance following the earlier downtrend.

According to AXIOS, citing two U.S. officials and additional sources familiar with the talks, the United States and Iran are currently discussing a three-page framework aimed at de-escalating tensions and addressing nuclear concerns.
A key element under consideration is a proposal that would see the U.S. unfreeze approximately $20 billion in Iranian assets in exchange for Iran giving up its stockpile of enriched uranium. The idea has been informally described by some officials as a “cash for uranium” arrangement, though it remains only one of several options on the table.
Earlier in the negotiations, the U.S. reportedly floated a figure of around $6 billion for humanitarian-related purposes, while Iran initially demanded as much as $27 billion. The current $20 billion figure is seen as a potential middle ground in ongoing discussions.
One U.S. official clarified that the proposal reflects the U.S. negotiating position, while another emphasized that the “cash for uranium” concept is still part of broader exploratory talks and not a finalized agreement.
On the nuclear issue itself, Washington is reportedly insisting that Iran transfer all enriched nuclear material to the United States. Tehran, however, has only agreed to a process of “domestic dilution” under international supervision.
A possible compromise under discussion would involve sending some highly enriched uranium to a third country (not necessarily the U.S.), while the remainder would be diluted inside Iran under monitored conditions.
Overall, the talks highlight both the complexity and the cautious progress of negotiations, with both sides still far apart but exploring potential pathways to reduce escalation and stabilize the situation.
