SUI Network Sees Whale Accumulation Ahead of Gasless Upgrade
SUI Network is starting to look like one of those projects whales accumulate quietly while retail traders argue over candles on social media. According to CryptoQuant data, large-volume buyers have been aggressively absorbing SUI in the $0.80 to $1.00 range during recent consolidation phases, creating what traders now view as a major macro support pocket.
The latest Spot Average Order Size data points toward heavy institutional-style accumulation inside the $0.90–$1.00 range. Instead of chasing pumps, larger players appear to be using sideways price action to build positions without sending the market vertical too early.

Well, the same range also aligns with compressed short-term moving averages, reinforcing the idea that SUI has established a structurally important demand zone. If price revisits that area again, traders expect buyers to defend it aggressively.

Meanwhile, the network itself keeps expanding. Ledger reported SUI as one of its top trending assets this week with a 21.75% jump in trading volume activity inside the wallet ecosystem.

At the same time, tokenized real-world asset activity exploded. Just seven days after launch, users traded more than $200 million in tokenized TradFi assets through Astros AG. Stablecoin liquidity is also deepening, with CurrentSUI reaching $8.89 million in natively backed supply alongside a 72% utilization rate.

So, what’s next? SUI developers are preparing one of the network’s most anticipated upgrades yet.

Increased stablecoin flows don’t always translate into long-term capital allocation.

On the DeFi side, this is also reflected in derivatives activity. As the chart below shows, Solana perpetuals Open Interest has climbed to $429 million, rising 156% over the past 35 days.

This increase in Open Interest suggests growing leveraged positioning rather than sustained spot-driven accumulation.

Combined with the decline in TVL, this suggests a shift toward trading-driven activity rather than capital being locked into DeFi protocols.

Against this backdrop, $SOL’s 9.3% weekly correction, despite rising stablecoin flows, highlights how leverage unwinding can amplify downside price moves.

The implication becomes more significant from an institutional perspective.

In a recent report from two Solana treasury firms, Forward Industries and DeFi Development Corp, both recorded large unrealized losses as $SOL fell over 30% in Q1.

Forward posted $283.1 million in losses, while DeFi Development Corp reported $83.4 million in losses, directly impacting their ability to accumulate $SOL.

In this context, Solana’s DeFi activity may remain under pressure into Q2. This, in turn, could sustain higher volatility and extend the weakness seen in Q1.

Macrostrategist Jordi Visser, a guest on renowned financial commentator Anthony Pompliano’s show, discussed the bottlenecks in global markets, the rising inflation regime, and recent developments in the cryptocurrency markets.

Visser stated that he specifically saw a signal of a “major merger and breakout” in the charts of Bitcoin (BTC) and Dogecoin (DOGE).

Visser stated that traditional institutions or institutional capital do not have a direct weight in Dogecoin, and that he uses the asset as an “alarm system” to measure individual investor enthusiasm in the market.

Visser stated that the Dogecoin chart is technically on the verge of a major breakout. He argued that a potential sharp upward movement in Dogecoin would be the clearest evidence yet of a strong return of individual investors to the crypto market.

He stated that Bitcoin would experience a lasting breakout if it surpassed its 200-day moving average (especially above the $82,000 level); and that the $2,400-$2,450 region in Ethereum carried a similar signal.

He added that global oil stocks are rapidly dwindling due to geopolitical tensions with Iran and strategic moves regarding the Strait of Hormuz. He argued that rising interest rate pressures will eventually force the government to lower rates, which would be the biggest catalyst for gold, silver, copper, and Bitcoin.

Dogecoin’s [$DOGE] price has been in a constant downtrend since last year’s September. However, the memecoin is starting to show signs of reversal.

Capital inflows from all traders are increasing even though greedy retailers are struggling.

Dogecoin accumulation is on. For context, a newly created wallet has opened a 20 million $DOGE position with 10x leverage. The order is worth more than $2.25 million but is sitting at a loss of more than $60K at press time.

The position was entered at around $0.1134 with a liquidation price of $0.1028.

Additionally, more money is flowing into spot Dogecoin ETFs. Over the last eight days, half of them have experienced positive net inflows. In total, more than $1.30 million has flowed into the memecoin in May.

These inflows have shattered extended periods of inactivity for Dogecoin ETFs. They still hold less than 0.1% of the memecoin’s market cap.

However, these figures are small compared to other traditional and crypto ETFs. This suggests $DOGE ETFs are still a long way from convincing traditional investors.

The data shows early capital inflows even though liquidity remains thin.

From a broader perspective, the whales’ positions are increasing while those of retailers are declining.

Dogecoin’s Whales vs. Retail Delta has increased from around 0.20 to almost 0.60. This suggests whales were buying as Dogecoin was declining. On the other hand, long positions held by retailers were getting liquidated.

This behavior was synchronized across other altcoins like Solana [SOL], Ripple [XRP], and Filecoin [FIL].

The bullish signals are overwhelming the bearish ones. Hence, the price action appears to be shaping up for a reversal.
