The crypto market is keenly awaiting the Federal Reserve’s potential decision on interest rates after the FOMC meeting tomorrow. With inflation still high and the job market starting to cool, investors are watching to see whether the Fed will change its approach or keep rates unchanged. The Federal Reserve is reportedly gearing up to conduct its FOMC meeting today and tomorrow. After the FOMC meeting, the Fed will decide whether to change the interest rates, currently at 3.5%-3.75%.

The central bank has reduced the rate by a quarter point at the last three FOMC meetings. In December, the bank lowered the rates by 25 basis points to the current level. These moves were intended to prevent a slowdown in the job market from turning into higher unemployment.

However, in the FOMC minutes last month, many Fed officials stated that it would be better to pause rate cuts after three consecutive reductions. This cast a shadow over the central bank’s potential move.

The odds on the CME FedWatch Tool also reinforce this speculation, as the chance for a Fed rate hold is currently at 97.2%. This marks a marginal surge from last week’s Fed rate hold odds at 95%, as reported by CoinGape.
While President Donald Trump repeatedly calls for interest rate cuts, Fed Chair Jerome Powell sees this as a challenging situation. He noted,

“A very large number of participants agree that risks are to the upside for unemployment and to the upside for inflation.

Bitcoin’s mining difficulty jumped about 15% to 144.4 trillion on Feb. 20, according to CoinWarz data, reversing an 11% drop earlier this month that marked the sharpest decline since China’s 2021 mining ban.

The earlier decline followed a sharp drop in hash rate after severe winter storms swept across much of the United States, disrupting power grids and forcing miners offline. In late January, Foundry USA, the largest mining pool by hash rate, briefly saw its computing power fall to about 198 exahashes per second from nearly 400 EH/s, before recovering.

Hash rate measures the total computing power securing the network, while mining difficulty adjusts every 2,016 blocks, about every two weeks, to keep block production near its 10-minute target.

As US miners restored operations after the storm, hash rate rebounded, prompting the latest upward difficulty adjustmen

“I used (crypto) Visa cards for literally anything that I would use a credit card for.” Says Trivieri, who works as a product lead for a blockchain and cryptocurrency company in New York City.

Triveiri makes use of a neobank to convert her crypto into stablecoins, allowing her to conduct her payments in a more efficient manner.

The Motley Fool’s report confirms a wider trend of cryptocurrency adoption among Gen Z. Nearly 42% of Gen Z and 36% of millennials are exploring cryptocurrency payments actively. The majority of them confirmed using stablecoins to make payments.

Out of these, another 40% of millennials shared that they prefer using cryptocurrency for travel and large purchases. On the other hand, nearly 39% of respondents shared how they use crypto for all their gaming purposes, as the Bitget report later confirms.

Everstake, a crypto staking provider, said in a new report that 2025 was a “year of sharp contrasts” for Ethereum, filled with major network upgrades and rising institutional adoption even as the price of ETH remained relatively flat.

In its Ethereum Staking Insights & Protocol Analysis report, Everstake said total value staked reached about 36.08 million ETH, or roughly 29.3% of supply, with net growth of more than 1.8 million ETH. As of Tuesday, Jan. 27, about 36.5 million ETH is staked – roughly 30.26% of supply, according to Coinbase data.

The report also highlighted continued growth in network activity, with Ethereum Layer 1 (L1) transactions rising about 30% over the year to around 1.5-1.6 million per day, while Layer 2 throughput surpassed roughly 300-330 transactions per second (TPS).

The findings underscore that Ethereum has continued to scale and attract larger players despite ETH’s underperformance. Currently, Ethereum’s total value locked (TVL) stands at nearly $72 billion, while Ether is changing hands at $2,930, up 4% on the day, but down 10% over the year.

Everstake said the Layer 1 is increasingly being used as a settlement layer, while most day-to-day activity has shifted to Layer 2. The findings pointed to protocol upgrades, including Pectra, which introduced EIP-7251 to raise the maximum effective validator balance from 32 ETH to 2,048 ETH, allowing large stakers to consolidate validators.
