Galaxy and Sharplink are launching a $125 million institutional DeFi yield fund backed by Ethereum treasury holdings, highlighting the growing interest from major institutions in earning onchain yield without selling their crypto assets.

The new fund, named the Galaxy Sharplink Onchain Yield Fund, will reportedly begin operations within the coming weeks. Sharplink plans to contribute $100 million worth of staked ETH from its treasury, while Galaxy will add another $25 million and manage the overall fund operations.

The strategy focuses on deploying capital into DeFi liquidity protocols and other blockchain-based yield opportunities. The main objective is to generate additional returns while allowing long-term exposure to Ethereum to remain intact. This approach reflects how institutional investors are increasingly treating digital assets not only as speculative investments, but also as productive capital capable of generating ongoing yield.

Galaxy CEO Mike Novogratz stated that institutions are demanding blockchain investment products that offer both yield generation and professional risk management tools similar to those available in traditional finance markets.

Ripple Prime secured a $200 million asset-based debt facility from Neuberger Berman’s specialty-finance group to expand margin lending capacity for institutional clients, according to Bloomberg.

The facility allows the prime brokerage platform to provide unified credit lines for trading across equities, fixed income, and digital assets using margin loans as collateral.
Ripple Prime, the prime brokerage arm of blockchain firm Ripple, has secured a $200 million asset-based debt facility from Neuberger Berman to expand its institutional margin lending capacity.

The facility can be drawn down in full or partially, depending on client borrowing demand across equities, fixed income, and crypto, with Ripple Prime deploying margin loans that function as collateral within its lending framework, Bloomberg reported.

Ripple Prime President Noel Kimmel told Bloomberg the arrangement represents "one structure, one credit line, across the major asset classes," stating that the firm’s infrastructure must reflect the fact that institutional clients do not operate with "siloed risks or portfolios."

The financing arrives months after Ripple launched its digital asset prime brokerage for the U.S. market in November, following the company's $1.25 billion acquisition of Hidden Road. The deal, one of the largest in crypto industry history, merged Hidden Road's multi-asset licenses and infrastructure with Ripple's technology to provide unified clearing, financing, and execution across digital assets, foreign exchange, derivatives, and fixed income.
