Kevin Warsh, President Donald Trump’s nominee to lead the Federal Reserve, has reported an equity stake in Bitcoin payments startup Flashnet.

Trump’s nominee for Federal Reserve chair, Kevin Warsh, has disclosed an equity stake in Bitcoin payments start-up Flashnet. The holding appeared in financial disclosure forms filed ahead of Warsh’s Senate confirmation hearing, which could begin as soon as this week but will most likely start next week.

Flashnet positions itself as a lightning-style Bitcoin payment system for merchants and fintech platforms, part of a broader push to speed up and cheapen transactions on the Bitcoin network. Warsh’s stake links the incoming Fed chief directly to a company whose fortunes depend on Bitcoin adoption and transaction volume, at a time when he has publicly framed Bitcoin as “an important asset” and “a very good policeman for policy.” 

During past comments, he has argued that Bitcoin’s price can signal when the Fed is behind the curve on inflation or financial conditions.

The Fed chair oversees interest-rate policy and the regulatory environment that shapes liquidity conditions for all risk assets, including cryptocurrencies. Warsh has been cast in some corners of the industry as the first overtly pro‑Bitcoin Fed chair, with supporters arguing that his familiarity with the asset class will help with institutional normalization rather than bias.

After a prolonged period of caution, the crypto market is finally seeing a strong return of capital. According to CoinShares, global crypto investment products recorded $1.1 billion in net inflows last week — the largest weekly inflow since January.
This surge appears to be driven by cooler-than-expected U.S. inflation data and easing geopolitical tensions, both of which have boosted overall risk appetite. Notably, around 95% of the inflows came from the United States, reinforcing the idea that institutional capital — particularly from Wall Street — continues to dominate market direction.
🔹 Bitcoin Takes Center Stage
Bitcoin was the clear winner, attracting $872 million in inflows, bringing its year-to-date total close to $2 billion.
At the same time, short Bitcoin products saw $20.2 million in inflows, signaling that some investors are still hedging rather than going all-in bullish.
🔹 Ethereum Shows Signs of Recovery
Ethereum investment products recorded $196.5 million in inflows.
While still in net outflow territory for the year, this marks a notable shift in short-term sentiment, suggesting early signs of renewed confidence.
🔹 Mixed Performance Across Altcoins
XRP saw modest inflows
Solana experienced outflows
Multi-asset products posted mild gains
This divergence indicates the market is still in a restructuring phase, rather than a broad-based rally.

Beyond ‘digital gold,’ Iran conflict forces a rethink of the nature of bitcoin

Bitcoin's outperformance during the Iran conflict doesn't fit the standard playbook, and Bitwise CIO Matt Hougan thinks he knows why.

The largest cryptocurrency has gained 12% since U.S. and Israeli airstrikes began Feb. 28, while the S&P 500 has fallen 1% and gold 10%. For an asset routinely dismissed as a leveraged tech bet during risk-off episodes, that performance has forced a rethink.

In a post on X, Hougan reframed bitcoin as two simultaneous bets. The first is the familiar "digital gold" thesis, competing for share of the $38 trillion store-of-value market.

The second is what he calls an out-of-the-money call option on bitcoin functioning as an actual currency, a bet he says most investors have treated as borderline irrelevant until now.

The Iran conflict changed the math on the second bet. Iran said it will collect a $1-per-barrel toll in bitcoin from ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz, the equivalent of roughly $20 million per day.

The levy is one of the first real-world examples of a sovereign state using bitcoin as a settlement mechanism for physical commerce, even if the circumstances were far from ideal.

UK Lawmaker Calls for Probe Into Nigel Farage’s Bitcoin Ties

Liberal Democrat deputy leader Daisy Cooper urged the UK FCA to investigate Nigel Farage over his involvement with bitcoin treasury firm Stack BTC.

Political pressure is building in the United Kingdom as regulators face calls to examine bitcoin promotion tied to public officials, while broader scrutiny of digital asset markets continues across jurisdictions.

Liberal Democrat deputy leader Daisy Cooper urged the Financial Conduct Authority to investigate Nigel Farage over his involvement with bitcoin treasury firm Stack BTC. The request follows a promotional video in which the company said Farage executed a £2 million bitcoin purchase on its behalf. 

The company described the purchase as a “landmark moment” in British politics, stating that Farage is the first sitting MP and the first UK political party leader to publicly acquire bitcoin.

Farage had disclosed a prior investment in the firm, raising questions about conflicts of interest and market conduct.

In a letter to FCA chief Nikhil Rathi, Cooper cited concerns that Farage’s dual role as investor and promoter could expose retail investors to risk. She asked the regulator to determine whether the activity could amount to market abuse or improper influence. 

“Farage could be using the Trump playbook to put his own interests above the public good.” Cooper posted on X

The FCA confirmed receipt of the request and said it would review the matter.

The controversy also touches on political financing. Cooper pointed to a £9 million donation to Reform UK from crypto investor Christopher Harborne, which she described as unprecedented in scale. She argued that financial ties between political actors and digital asset firms could blur the line between advocacy and self-interest.

Some 572 bitcoin worth $42.77 million moved from a Gemini hot wallet into wallets owned by Winklevoss Capital and custody wallets in the past 24 hours, according to Arkham Intelligence data, the first significant transfers into the fund's addresses in over a month.
The transfers came in two batches. One of 372 $BTC and one of 200 $BTC about 11 hours later. Both moved from addresses tagged by Arkham as belonging to the crypto exchange to addresses tagged as Winklevoss Capital and Gemini Custody.
Winklevoss Capital now holds 9,328 $BTC worth $689 million across 128 tracked addresses, up from about 8,800 $BTC after a $128.5 million deposit into Gemini roughly a month ago that brought holdings to their lowest level since 2012.

It also holds 70,588 ETH worth $163.7 million, bringing its total tracked portfolio to approximately $853 million, the Arkham data show.
The onchain data shows the direction of movement, not the intent. The transfers could reflect new purchases, internal rebalancing between Gemini's exchange and custody infrastructure, or a partial reversal of last month's deposit.
