Bitcoin price fell nearly 3% on Wednesday as investors booked profits following its sharp rally above $75,000 the previous day amid renewed hopes of U.S.-Iran peace talks.

Bitcoin’s price fell today as investors booked profits following the sharp rebound yesterday. It is quite common for investors to take some profits, especially when such a sharp upside occurs after days of intense volatility amid geopolitical conflict situations.

The risk-off sentiment is not confined to Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies alone, as traditional safe-haven assets such as gold and silver have also fallen a bit today after crude oil prices moved up again following the sharp drop under $100 yesterday.

According to data from crypto.news, Bitcoin (BTC) price fell 3% to an intraday low of $73,617 on Wednesday after paring off some of its gains from the previous day when the bellwether rose 7% to nearly $76,000.

The rebound occurred amid renewed hopes of a more concrete ceasefire in place between the U.S. and Iran after reports emerged that Iran was ready to negotiate new terms regarding its nuclear program and maritime conduct.

Most recently, U.S. President Donald Trump told Fox News that the war is “close to over” after he hinted at a second round of face-to-face talks with Iran in Islamabad in the next two days. However, with Pakistan’s prime minister out of the nation till April 18, the talks could face some delays.

The diplomatic push follows after the U.S. initiated a naval blockade at the Strait of Hormuz to halt economic trade on all seaborne cargo going into and out of Iran.

Beyond ‘digital gold,’ Iran conflict forces a rethink of the nature of bitcoin

Bitcoin's outperformance during the Iran conflict doesn't fit the standard playbook, and Bitwise CIO Matt Hougan thinks he knows why.

The largest cryptocurrency has gained 12% since U.S. and Israeli airstrikes began Feb. 28, while the S&P 500 has fallen 1% and gold 10%. For an asset routinely dismissed as a leveraged tech bet during risk-off episodes, that performance has forced a rethink.

In a post on X, Hougan reframed bitcoin as two simultaneous bets. The first is the familiar "digital gold" thesis, competing for share of the $38 trillion store-of-value market.

The second is what he calls an out-of-the-money call option on bitcoin functioning as an actual currency, a bet he says most investors have treated as borderline irrelevant until now.

The Iran conflict changed the math on the second bet. Iran said it will collect a $1-per-barrel toll in bitcoin from ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz, the equivalent of roughly $20 million per day.

The levy is one of the first real-world examples of a sovereign state using bitcoin as a settlement mechanism for physical commerce, even if the circumstances were far from ideal.

How TRON's Post-Quantum Upgrade Can Help You

The blockchain is adding new NIST-compliant cryptographic signatures to protect wallets and transactions. It works by allowing wallets to create new post-quantum key pairs and use these more secure signatures to sign transactions.  This upgrade is expected to use ML-DSA (FIPS 204) as the primary standard and SLH-DSA (FIPS 205) as a backup.

In the early stages, TRON may employ a hybrid signature mechanism, where network nodes simultaneously verify existing ECDSA signatures and the new post-quantum signatures. This maintains compatibility while providing users with stronger security. The main trade-off is file size, as post-quantum signatures are significantly larger than ECDSA, around 2-4 KB, while ECDSA is 64-70 bytes.

Despite the complexity of these new security tools, the team is working to keep the network running fast. The platform handles a large volume of USDT, so maintaining speed is crucial.
