Dogecoin ($DOGE), the king of meme coins, has printed an unusual liquidation as short position sellers disappeared. CoinGlass data reveals that short traders were not forcibly liquidated in the midst of price movement in the crypto space.

Did recent $DOGE rally discourage bearish bets?

Notably, for Dogecoin to print $0 in short liquidations in an hour, it implies that most traders were betting long on the meme coin and bullish on the price. It could also mean that the volume of short traders was not significant enough to produce liquidations on the heat map.

Dogecoin short sellers may have reported $0 in short positions because they were pressured to close their positions manually. That is, before it could hit liquidation levels, these traders closed, leading to losses in market fees, buys and slippage.

Dogecoin’s price performance in the last seven days provides insight into the zero-dollar liquidation. The king of meme coins had been on an upward climb, rising over 4.35% within the period. This positive sentiment may have led to fewer short bets.

However, following the market-wide pullback, $DOGE has slipped more than the broader crypto market. As of this writing, Dogecoin changed hands at $0.09429, which represents a 4.61% decline in the last 24 hours.

The price decline was triggered by rejection at $DOGE’s resistance level and amplified by Bitcoin’s slip. Despite this, volume remains up by 27.84% at $1.81 billion.

Can Dogecoin rally to $0.10?
Interestingly, at the start of the trading week, Dogecoin soared to 87% in volume after it formed a golden cross.

The technical signal inspired more engagement from market participants as users anticipated a rebound for the meme coin.

Bitcoin price succumbed to a violent selloff on Monday while gold and silver surged to all-time highs following President Donald Trump‘s threat of sweeping new tariffs on European allies.

According to CryptoSlate's data, BTC slipped below $93,000 within minutes during early Asian trading hours, after trading comfortably in the mid-$95,000s just moments earlier.

This price performance delivered a real-time stress test for the “digital gold” narrative. While traditional precious metals rallied to new highs on the prospect of geopolitical instability, the largest digital asset buckled.

This divergence highlights Bitcoin’s current role in the macro regime. In “risk-off” events, Bitcoin often behaves like a high-beta liquidity instrument that is sold first as portfolios de-risk, while gold rallies on the uncertainty itself.

Thus, the question for institutional allocators is not whether Bitcoin can be a hedge in the long run, but whether it can act like one during the first hour of a shock when liquidity is king.

In contrast, assets such as cash, government bonds, and physical gold carry a 0% risk weight, giving them a major advantage within banking portfolios.
Industry leaders argue that these strict capital requirements discourage banks from participating in the crypto market. According to Jeff Walton, if the United States aims to become the global “crypto capital,” regulatory frameworks must evolve, as the current rules misprice the risk associated with digital assets.
Similarly, Chris Perkins explained that the high capital requirement significantly reduces banks’ return on equity (ROE), a key profitability metric. As a result, many banks avoid holding cryptocurrencies despite growing institutional interest.
The risk weighting policy was originally proposed in 2021 and finalized in 2024, placing cryptocurrencies in the highest risk category under international banking standards. Since then, the rule has faced strong criticism from the crypto industry, which believes it indirectly restricts financial institutions from engaging with digital assets.
However, there are signs that regulators may reconsider the approach. In late 2025, Erik Thedéen suggested that the committee may need to explore a different regulatory framework for crypto risk exposure as the digital asset market continues to grow.
