Ripple Strikes Deal with Korea’s Largest Life Insurance Company to Expand Custody Usage

Ripple has struck a landmark deal with one of South Korea’s largest life insurers to tokenize government bonds on the blockchain. This deal is the country’s first such institutional settlement and a push into regulated digital asset infrastructure.

The partnership with Kyobo Life Insurance was announced in Seoul on Wednesday, April 15, centered on Ripple Custody. It will handle the secure holding, transfer, and near-real-time settlement of tokenized bonds, replacing the traditional two-day cycle with instantaneous on-chain execution.

That shift is expected to cut counterparty risk and free up capital more efficiently. The two sides will also examine the regulatory and technical path for broader tokenized Treasury operations, with plans to eventually link the infrastructure to payments, liquidity management, and treasury functions.

Over time, the setup is designed to serve as a model for other regulated players, starting with custody and expanding into full tokenization and settlement. Ripple will also support Kyobo’s exploration of stablecoin rails for 24/7-compliant transactions.

The initiative aligns with Kyobo’s push to modernize operations through next-generation financial technology.

Fiona Murray, Ripple’s managing director for Asia Pacific, described Korea’s institutional market as reaching a decisive moment and said the tie-up with Kyobo shows that enterprise-ready blockchain tools are already deployable today. Murray called it the start of a deeper, long-term commitment to the Korean financial sector.

From a technical perspective, a complex pivot bottom is a reversal pattern. This pattern occurs when a complex head and shoulders pattern with multiple heads or shoulders forms after a sustained downtrend.

Legendary trader Peter Brant has highlighted compound pivot bottoms on various historical charts, including copper prices in the 1970s, which led to copper prices doubling in 14 months.

Chedes also predicts that if Bitcoin can turn $76,000 into a support level, it will see a significant breakout. This price level last acted as resistance in March.

Bitcoin breakout odds rise as negative funding streak mirrors past bottoming regimes, K33 says

Persistent negative funding alongside growing open interest and rising bitcoin prices is increasing the likelihood of a short squeeze, according to K33.

The bitcoin 30-day average funding rate has been negative for 46 consecutive days, matching the duration of the 2022 bear market bottom, Head of Research Vetle Lunde noted.

While defensive positioning has become a recurring theme in the bitcoin ￼BTC-0.17%￼

 market, continued negative funding paired with growing open interest and rising prices point to elevated aggression from bears, according to research and brokerage firm K33, increasing the likelihood of a short squeeze ahead.

The 30-day average bitcoin derivatives funding rate has now been negative for 46 consecutive days, K33 Head of Research Vetle Lunde noted in a new report, matching the duration of the negative funding regime seen around the late 2022 bear market bottom.

"With recent funding rate compression and the unusually persistent negative regime, we see increasing odds of higher highs and a breakout from BTC's 68-day consolidation," Lunde said.

Periods where notional open interest trends higher, bitcoin prices rise, and daily, seven-day, and 30-day average funding rates remain negative have persistently appeared near consolidation bottoms, Lunde noted.

"Current crypto-native positioning aligns with such conditions, which is why we have emphasized funding rate regimes in our reports over the past month and why we maintain our bullish BTC outlook," he said.

Only March to May 2020 (63 days) and June to August 2021 (49 days) have presented longer continuous durations of negative 30-day funding rates, according to K33's analysis.

While defensive positioning has become a common theme in the Bitcoin (BTC) market, research and brokerage firm K33 says that persistently negative funding conditions, coupled with rising open interest and increasing prices, indicate increased short-selling aggression, raising the likelihood of a future short squeeze.

Veter Lunde, Head of Research at K33, noted in a new report that the 30-day average funding rate for Bitcoin derivatives has been negative for 46 consecutive days. This coincides with the duration of negative funding mechanisms seen around the end of the 2022 bear market.

Lundde stated, "With the recent tightening of funding rates and the unusually persistent negative interest rate environment, we believe the likelihood of Bitcoin prices reaching new highs and breaking out of the 68-day consolidation range is increasing."

Lundde points out that periods of rising notional open interest, rising Bitcoin prices, and negative daily, 7-day, and 30-day average funding rates often occur near consolidation bottoms.

 “The current native market positioning of cryptocurrencies aligns with these conditions, which is why we highlighted funding rate mechanisms in our reports over the past month and why we maintain our bullish outlook on Bitcoin,” he said.

According to K33’s analysis, only the periods of consecutive negative 30-day funding rates were March to May 2020 (63 days) and June to August 2021 (49 days).
