VerifiedX brings privacy layer to Bitcoin as institutional demand for confidentiality grows

A growing push to bring privacy to public blockchains has reached Bitcoin, with VerifiedX unveiling a new layer designed to shield transactions while maintaining auditability.

The system, called Prism, enables encrypted balances, shielded addresses and selective disclosure, allowing users to transact privately while still proving compliance when required, according to an emailed announcement shared with CoinDesk on Thursday.

The timing reflects a broader shift across the industry. The XRP Ledger this week introduced zero-knowledge proof (ZKP) capabilities aimed squarely at institutional users seeking to transact without exposing sensitive data on public ledgers.

That effort highlights what many see as a core barrier to institutional adoption: transparency. While public blockchains provide trust through openness, they also expose balances, counterparties and transaction flows — something institutions typically avoid in traditional finance (TradFi).

Any such development carries added weight when applied to Bitcoin. As the largest digital asset — worth more than the rest of the crypto market combined at times — Bitcoin remains the primary gateway for institutional capital. That means improvements to its functionality, particularly around privacy and usability, have the potential to influence the entire sector more profoundly than similar upgrades on smaller networks.

VerifiedX is applying this model directly to Bitcoin-linked activity rather than building a separate privacy chain. Assets can move between transparent and shielded states, while “viewing keys” enable selective access for auditors or regulators.

THORChain Outlines Two Integration Paths for Apps Seeking Cross‑Chain 
THORChain launched its Native API, a proprietary interface that allows wallets, decentralized exchanges and aggregators to connect directly to the protocol’s infrastructure to execute cross-chain swaps without relying on external providers such as Xchain.js or SwapKit.

Until now, development teams had two paths: integrating directly with THORChain’s technical stack, which meant managing their own maintenance and infrastructure, or using third-party SDKs and APIs, simpler but with additional fees and provider dependency. The Native API introduces a third option that eliminates that commission layer without modifying the protocol’s operation.

Swaps continue to execute in the same pools and are validated by the same set of nodes. What changes is the access channel: with the Native API, the provider fee disappears, as its use is free of charge. This gives integrators greater margin or the ability to offer more competitive prices to their end users.

The API supports asset queries, quote requests, swap execution and transaction tracking, all from a single interface maintained by the protocol itself. It also contemplates advanced flows such as memoless swaps, which simplify the user experience by eliminating the need to manually include memos. It can be accessed via an API key, and documentation is available in THORChain’s official repository on GitLab.

Bigger U.S. tax refunds, new crypto rules, and faster payouts are turning refund season into a real-world test of Bitcoin’s retail demand.
Bitcoin has spent the first half of April trading in the low $70,000s, with recent moves through the $71,000 to $75,000 zone keeping the asset close enough to its highs for retail attention to return quickly.

But there’s a more important change happening beneath the surface.

A lot of household cash is moving through the U.S. financial system as today's April 15 tax deadline arrives. This year, tax season is also more complicated for people who own crypto.

This overlap creates a more interesting situation than the usual talk about ETFs or the broader economy.

Recent IRS statistics show just how big the refund channel is now.

By April 3, the IRS had sent out 69.8 million refunds, up 3.1% from last year. The total amount refunded was $241.7 billion, a 14.5% increase, and the average refund rose 11.1% to $3,462.

Direct deposit refunds stood out even more.

The IRS reported 70.3 million direct deposit refunds, totaling $242.9 billion. The average direct deposit refund was $3,454.

That’s real money landing in household accounts at a time when Bitcoin is liquid, easy to access, and familiar enough that even a small investment feels possible for people who follow the market.

This link gets even stronger as the tax deadline approaches.

A recent MarketWatch report said the average refund is now about $351 higher than last year. The IRS has also received over a million fewer returns compared to this time last year.

The same report pointed to late-arriving forms and new crypto reporting rules as reasons for the slower pace of filings.

Together, these factors are changing how people talk about Bitcoin.

Bitcoin Improvement Proposal 361 (BIP 361), titled “Post Quantum Migration and Legacy Signature Sunset,” landed in Bitcoin's official proposal repository with a three-phase plan to phase out ECDSA and Schnorr signature spends entirely once a quantum-resistant output type exists on the network.

The proposal builds directly on BIP 360, published in February, which introduced a new address format that strips Taproot's quantum-vulnerable key-path spend, called Pay-to-Merkle-Root (P2MR). The proposal also preserved compatibility with Lightning, BitVM, and multi-signature setups.
