The $293 million KelpDAO hack shows why DeFi is finally being forced to grow upFor years, decentralized finance sold itself on a simple promise: code is law. Smart contracts, immutable and transparent, would remove the human weaknesses that plague traditional finance.
But the $293 million KelpDAO exploit that occurred last month exposed an uncomfortable reality for crypto’s infrastructure builders: the industry’s biggest vulnerabilities increasingly have little to do with the smart contracts themselves.
Instead, the danger now lies in the sprawling web of bridges, governance systems, operational security and third-party dependencies that sit around the code, the messy human and infrastructural layer underpinning modern DeFi.

“The contracts in most of these cases did exactly what their authors told them to do,” said Eugene Mamin, the chief technical master at Lido Labs Foundation, to CoinDesk. “The authors just weren’t the legitimate people in that case.”

The KelpDAO exploit, linked to a vulnerability involving LayerZero’s bridge infrastructure, is becoming a defining moment for a DeFi industry wrestling with its own maturity.

Solana is trading near $89 after a pullback from the $96 resistance area, keeping the $81.30 support level in focus for traders watching the next $SOL price move.

The 4-hour chart shared by MCO Global shows Solana correcting from its recent high after failing to clear the resistance region near $96. The analyst said the move makes a direct impulsive bullish scenario less likely in the short term.# 



However, the broader bullish setup has not fully failed. MCO Global said the preferred bullish alternative remains a larger diagonal structure in a higher-degree wave C.

Solana now needs to stay above the red support zone near $81.30 to keep the possibility of another upward extension. If buyers defend that area, $SOL could attempt another move toward the $96 resistance level.

Pompliano argued that in a world where artificial intelligence creates an “abundance and production explosion” in every field, the value of assets with strict rules and limited supply will increase exponentially, making Bitcoin the safest haven.

Pompliano stated that macroeconomic data, inflation reports, and interest rate policies are creating significant uncertainty, and noted that even within the Fed, there are major disagreements regarding whether to raise, lower, or keep interest rates stable.

Stating that there is no financial certainty for the next few years, the renowned analyst summarized his portfolio strategy with the following words:

“In such an uncertain environment, if I had to choose just one asset to hold for the next 20 years, it would definitely be Bitcoin. Because Bitcoin is digitally scarce, has a limited supply, is constantly monitored, resistant to external interference, and is outside the control of sovereign states.”

Pompliano stated that the younger generation is rapidly adopting the current financial system and will inherit a massive legacy of capital from the “Baby Boomer” generation in the coming period, with Bitcoin being the primary destination for this capital.

Pompliano argued that the growth in the artificial intelligence sector would be much larger and more long-lasting than many people anticipated, recalling that AI labs like Anthropic, while planning to increase their targets by 3 or 10 times, suddenly faced an 80-fold surge in demand.
