The US Bureau of Labor Statistics has released a solid April jobs report that is fueling US stocks higher, and the Nasdaq Composite is up overall.
Payrolls added 115,000 jobs in April, trumping the 65,000 jobs analysts expected, as the unemployment rate held steady at 4.3%. Job gains, which have been concentrated mostly in the healthcare sector, began to broaden to other sectors, with payroll gains in transportation and warehousing and retail. Manufacturing jobs slid, and federal government employment also continued to decline.Job growth has been volatile this year. March data was revised higher by 1,000 to 185,000, an about-face from the newly revised 156,000 jobs lost in February and closer to the blockbuster 160,000 jobs created in January.
Additionally, average hourly earnings came in lower than expected on April's jobs report, increasing 0.2% for the month and 3.6% on an annual basis, compared with respective estimates for 0.3% and 3.8%. The Nasdaq climbed as much as 1.4% on Friday, while the S&P 500 rose 0.79%. Despite the gains on Friday, the jobs report was largely
overshadowed by geopolitical events. Crude prices moved higher in after-hours trading on Thursday after military clashes erupted near the Strait of Hormuz. US benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude rose 0.4% after both the US and Iran accused one another of initiating attacks in the region. ETF Inflows Climb To $1.3 Billion

Spot XRP ETFs have reportedly seen rising institutional demand, with cumulative inflows reaching $1.32 billion. In May, XRP ETFs have also recorded a three-day inflow streak, bringing in about $28.1 million between May 4 and May 6, while other days during that stretch showed neither inflows nor outflows.

That ETF-driven demand has coincided with price strength. It has helped contribute to XRP moving above the $1.40 support area. At the time of writing, XRP traded around $1.41 per token, up roughly 2% over the past 24 hours.

Goldman Sachs Delays Fed Rate Cut Forecast to Dec. 2026Goldman Sachs has delayed its Federal Reserve rate cut forecast by one quarter. The bank now expects the first cut in December 2026 and the second in March 2027. Energy cost passthrough is keeping core PCE inflation closer to 3% than the Fed’s 2% target, pushing back the timeline for any policy easing.

April’s nonfarm payrolls came in at 115,000. Stable enough to remove pressure on the Fed to act. With the labour market no longer the concern, the Fed’s focus has shifted entirely to containing inflation.

“The Fed will shift its focus to containing upside inflation risks now that the labour market appears back on track,” said Goldman Sachs Asset Management’s Lindsay Rosner. “The FOMC could feel compelled to remove the easing bias from its June statement, suggesting hawks are gaining the upper hand.”

Wall Street Is Deeply Split
According to Wall Street Journal data tracking major institutional forecasts, the outlook is now divided:

No cuts in 2026: BNPP, HSBC, JP Morgan, MPA Macro, and RBC all forecast indefinite hold
First cut September 2026: Jefferies, Nomura, TD Securities, and Wells Fargo
Delayed further: Bank of America sees July 2027, Morgan Stanley sees January 2027

On April 21st and 22nd 2026, during a Senate Armed Services Committee, Admiral Samuel Paparo of U.S. Indo-Pacific Command made comments on Bitcoin’s utility in cybersecurity for the country’s military, calling it a “valuable computer science tool as power projection,” and disclosing that INCOPACOM is running a Bitcoin node in their experiments with the protocol.

The comments by the INCOPACOM Commander came just days after the Islamic Republic of Iran demanded payment in Bitcoin for safe passage across the Strait of Hormuz. The mention of “power projection” echoed the work of a famous and controversial Bitcoiner, Jason Lowery, author of Softwar: A Novel Theory on Power Projection, MIT Fellow and Special Assistant to the Commander of INDOPACOM.

In his work — which involved an MIT thesis and book expanding on his work — Lowery discussed the cybersecurity value of Bitcoin and its unique ability to deliver “power projection” in cyberspace, a landscape of national security and military operations that otherwise lacks traditional deterrence options.

The book gained significant popularity and earned Lowery both fans and critics across the Bitcoin industry, but was later taken down from distribution by Lowery at the request of his superiors. An event that suggested to some that the book might have something important enough that the U.S. military wants to keep it quiet.

A Duke University law instructor has raised serious legal questions about World Liberty Financial ($WLFI), the decentralized finance project backed by the Trump family, arguing that its token likely qualifies as an unregistered security under U.S. federal law.

The Howey Test and $WLFI’s Profit Expectations

Lee Reiners, who teaches cryptocurrency regulation at Duke University School of Law, told The Block that $WLFI’s structure and marketing create a clear expectation of profit for investors, satisfying a core element of the Howey Test. The test, established by the U.S. Supreme Court in 1946, determines whether a transaction constitutes an investment contract and thus a security.

Reiners noted that while the project’s backers describe $WLFI as a simple governance token, the reality is more complex. The token was sold specifically to raise capital for a cryptocurrency business venture, and the issuer’s marketing materials and white paper explicitly or implicitly promised returns, Reiners argued.

“When you sell tokens to finance a business and create profit expectations through marketing, you’ve hit the central prong of Howey,” Reiners said.

Decentralization Claims Under Scrutiny

Reiners also pointed to recent legal developments that undermine claims of decentralization often used by crypto projects to avoid securities classification. He specifically referenced the SEC’s lawsuit against Tron (TRX) founder Justin Sun, which he argued effectively demonstrated that many projects claiming to be decentralized are in fact centrally controlled.

“The Sun case showed that ‘decentralization’ is often a convenient fiction,” Reiners said. “If the operators retain control and the profits flow back to them, the token looks a lot like a security.”

UBS, the financial giant that manages more than $5 trillion in assets, disclosed this week that it holds positions tied to XRP through XRP ETF vehicles and trust structures. 

The filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) shows that UBS’s involvement with XRP did not begin this quarter, and—according to one expert—should be viewed as the latest step in a long-running engagement with Ripple’s ecosystem.

From RippleNet To XRP ETF Exposure
In the SEC filing, UBS reported total exposure of approximately $1.5 million across two investment vehicles. The disclosure breaks down into 197,369 shares of the Volatility Shares XRP ETF and 317 shares of the Grayscale XRP Trust. 

Market expert Bull Winkle pointed out that UBS didn’t “discover” XRP recently. In 2016, UBS was among seven major banks that publicly joined RippleNet, according to his remarks on social media site X (formerly Twitter) this Friday.  

He described the SEC filing as not a starting point, arguing it reflects the continuation of a relationship that spans nearly a decade. In his view, the filing fits into a timeline that moves forward over time rather than appearing out of nowhere.

Winkle’s broader “full picture” starts with 2016, when UBS joined RippleNet. He then ties UBS’s follow-on involvement to 2023, when UBS became a strategic partner at Tenity, and to 2024, when Ripple joined Tenity as a co-investor. 

“Nine years. One direction,” Winkle concluded, suggesting institutional engagement with Ripple’s infrastructure is more layered than any single headline would suggest.

Phong Le, CEO of Strategy, one of the world’s largest institutional Bitcoin holders, announced a significant change in the company’s Bitcoin management strategy. Speaking in an exclusive interview with CNBC, Le stated that they have shifted from a “never sell” approach to an active management model that maximizes shareholder value.

Phong Le stated that the company can now use its Bitcoin assets for liquidity and dividend payments when needed, instead of simply holding them. CEO Le said, “I believe in mathematics rather than ideology. If selling Bitcoin becomes a more profitable option than issuing new shares to pay dividends to our shareholders, we will do it.”

Le argued that the primary goal of this strategy was to increase the “amount of Bitcoin per share” and protect the rights of existing shareholders, adding that the Bitcoin sale would be evaluated specifically based on the relationship between the company’s book value and market price, and on tax advantages (profit/loss balance).

Responding to questions about the company’s preferred stock, “Stretch,” which offers a monthly return of 11.5%, Le reminded them of the company’s annual dividend obligation of $1.5 billion. Stating that they have the capacity to meet 18 months of dividends at current levels, Le reassured investors by saying, “We have approximately $60 billion in Bitcoin reserves to secure these payments.”

Addressing concerns about whether Strategy’s sales, given its massive market position, would affect the Bitcoin price, the CEO made the following statement:

“The Bitcoin market has a daily trading volume of over $60 billion. Our total annual dividend payments, however, are only $1.5 billion. On a daily basis, our transactions account for only a few basis points of the total liquidity. Therefore, we are not manipulating the market price upwards or downwards.”

Both parties have now chosen to take this route instead of pushing forward with their respective appeals. As CoinGape reported, legal expert Fred Rispoli had predicted that Ripple and the SEC would drop their appeals instead of challenging Judge Torres’ ruling on the injunction in the appeals court. With this move, the injunction would remain in place. However, both parties have already agreed that Ripple should pay $50 million as against the $125 million penalty that Judge Torres ordered in her final judgment in the XRP lawsuit. This decision would finally put an end to the legal battle that began in December 2020.
