Bitcoin has slipped back toward the $71,000 level after failing to hold its recent breakout above $73,000—and on-chain data suggests the reason is clear: investors are taking profits.
According to Glassnode, realized profit spiked sharply during the latest rally, with traders cashing out at a rate exceeding $20 million per hour. This wave of selling pressure appears to have stalled the momentum and pushed BTC back into its familiar range.
Profit-Taking Is Driving the Market
When prices rebound after a dip, many investors—especially those who bought lower or have been waiting to break even—use the opportunity to exit positions. That’s exactly what happened here.
As Bitcoin climbed above $73K, selling activity surged, effectively capping the upside.
This isn’t a one-off event either. It’s part of a repeating pattern:
Rallies toward the $70K–$80K range
Liquidity thins out
Profit-taking accelerates
Price gets pushed back down
A Market Stuck in a Range

Strategy purchased 13,927 BTC for approximately $1.0 billion, bringing total holdings to 780,897 BTC, funded entirely via STRC.

Strategy continued its aggressive Bitcoin accumulation strategy last week, purchasing 13,927 BTC for approximately $1.0 billion and pushing its total holdings to a staggering 780,897 Bitcoin, according to a Form 8-K filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission dated April 13, 2026.

The Tysons Corner, Virginia-based company acquired the new Bitcoin at an average price of roughly $71,902 per coin, funded entirely through proceeds from its at-the-market (ATM) stock offering program.

Strategy’s cumulative Bitcoin stash now carries an aggregate purchase price of $59.02 billion, with an average cost basis of approximately $75,577 per coin.

To finance the purchases, Strategy sold over 10 million shares of its Variable Rate Series A Perpetual Stretch Preferred Stock (Nasdaq: STRC) between April 6 and April 12, generating $1.001 billion in net proceeds — the sole active security sold during the period. 
The company still has substantial firepower remaining: as of April 12, Strategy reported more than $21.6 billion in remaining STRC capacity, alongside $27.1 billion available under its Class A common stock (MSTR) program — both boosted by a pair of $21.0 billion offering increases announced on March 23, 2026.

On Sunday Apr. 12, Michael Saylor made a “Think Bigger” post that sparked expectations that Strategy may resume large-scale bitcoin accumulation, as traders interpreted the signal as a precursor.

Bitcoin’s price is around $71,000 at the time of writing and shares of Strategy (MSTR) are down 2.5% pre-market.

$SOL 4H Chart: 0.382 Fib At $82.50 And SAR At $85.86 Are The Two Levels To Watch

The 4H chart shows a Fibonacci retracement from the February low at $67.61 to the swing high at $106.59, with price sitting just below the 0.382 level at $82.50. The descending channel from the March high continues to compress price, upper boundary near $88.00, lower boundary rising toward $78.00.

The SAR at $85.86 sits above as the next resistance after $82.50. The CMF at -0.19 keeps money flow negative, meaning buyers have not taken control despite the small bounce. Below, the 0.236 Fib at $76.81 is the next floor, with the February low at $67.61 as the line below that.
