CFTC probes oil futures trades tied to Trump's moves in Iran: Report



The US Commodity Futures Trading Commission is reportedly investigating suspicious oil trades that were placed ahead of certain announcements made by the Trump administration relating to the Iran war.

According to a Bloomberg report on Wednesday, the CFTC’s probe focuses on trading activity on CME Group’s NYMEX and the Intercontinental Exchange’s futures platforms.

The regulator is also requesting “Tag 50” identity data from exchanges to assist with the investigation. Tag 50 data is widely used for auditing and regulatory compliance checks.

The investigation into the futures trading platforms comes in parallel with the rising scrutiny of insider trading in prediction markets.

Bloomberg said the CFTC is reviewing at least two instances over a two-week period in which oil trading volumes surged shortly before the Trump administration made announcements related to the Iran war.

The first of those occurred on March 23, when billions of dollars in futures traded about 15 minutes before US President Donald Trump postponed plans to strike Iranian energy infrastructure.

The second instance occurred around two weeks later, on April 7, when Trump announced a two-week ceasefire on Iran, Bloomberg said.

The trading spikes contributed to falling oil prices and rising equity prices.

“There’s enormous appetite to pursue cases like this,” said Brian Young, a partner at law firm Jones Day who previously served as director of the CFTC’s enforcement division.

Crypto fund manager probed in the suspicious death of his fiancé’s death in Zanzibar



Joe McCann, founder of crypto investment firm Asymmetric, is being probed by authorities in Tanzania, following the the alleged death by suicide of his fiancé, U.S. influencer Ashly Robinson, during a trip to Zanzibar.

Robinson, 31, a Miami-based lifestyle creator also known as Ashlee Jenae, was found unresponsive on April 9 in a private villa at luxury resort Zuri Zanzibar, where the couple had been celebrating her birthday and recent engagement. She was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

According to an NBC News report, Zanzibar police investigating the death of Robinson confirmed she died by suicide following a “misunderstanding” between the couple.

Police confirmed the couple had been involved in a heated dispute before being separated twice by hotel staff and sent to separate rooms. However, police said Robinson’s death is still being investigated and have therefore withheld McCann’s passport, according to the news outlet.

Police have questioned McCann and have asked him to remain in the country while they receive the forensic results from Ashly’s autopsy.

The hotel said it was "deeply saddened" by what happened. "Our sincerest thoughts and sympathies go out to the family and loved ones during this painful time. We are providing our full cooperation to the local authorities and the U.S. Embassy," the hotel said in a statement.

Michael Saylor Revealed That His Company Has Made $1.3 Billion from Bitcoin in Just the Last Two Weeks

According to Michael Saylor, Strategy achieved significant profits from its Bitcoin ($BTC) strategy during the first two weeks of April 2026. Saylor stated that a total profit of 17,585 $BTC was made during this period, which is worth approximately $1.3 billion at current prices.

Saylor noted that this earnings measurement differs from the traditional accounting concept of “net profit,” but stated that, when evaluated within the framework of the “Bitcoin standard,” it is the closest indicator to net profit.

According to data shared by the company, as of April 15th, Strategy’s total $BTC holdings reached 780,897 $BTC. The current market value of this amount is estimated to be approximately $58.1 billion.

Developed by Strategy, the “Bitcoin Gain” metric stands out as one of the key indicators used to measure the company’s performance. This approach deviates from traditional financial reporting standards, offering investors a different value creation model. According to Saylor, while the $BTC Gain metric doesn’t directly represent accounting profit, it serves as the most accurate indicator of the value the company creates for shareholders as part of its Bitcoin strategy.

Circle CEO says China could launch yuan stablecoin within 3 to 5 years as currency race heats up

Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire told Reuters in Hong Kong that there is a "tremendous opportunity" for a yuan-backed stablecoin, predicting China could roll one out within three to five years as digital currencies become more integrated into global trade and finance.

The framing marks a shift from speculative idea to something closer to policy alignment. Reuters reported in August 2025 that Chinese officials were exploring a yuan-backed stablecoin to boost international adoption, a notable turn for a country that has banned crypto trading and mining since 2021.

Allaire has been making this case since at least 2023, when he argued stablecoins could outperform central bank digital currencies as a vehicle for RMB internationalization. At the time, Beijing’s stance looked firmly opposed. Authorities arrested individuals linked to CNHC, an offshore yuan stablecoin, and later that year reiterated restrictions on virtual currencies.

In the years since, stablecoins are now being treated less as speculative crypto products and more as financial infrastructure for cross-border settlement.

However, for China to launch a yuan stablecoin, Beijing would need to make the RMB fully convertible. It means that foreigners and markets would need to be able to freely exchange yuan in and out without tight government restrictions on capital flows or limits on how much money flows into and out of the country.

Without such full convertibility, a yuan stablecoin would be impossible, according to experts.

However, as of now, capital controls remain a pillar of Chinese economic policy, and a stablecoin backed by the offshore yuan (CNH) is a meaningfully different instrument than one backed by the onshore yuan (CNY) — the former fits within existing controls, the latter doesn't.
