The sell-off also follows profit-taking after Bitcoin’s rebound from $63,000 to $68,000 and coincides with a sharp stock market decline. The Dow Jones fell over 500 points, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq dropped more than 1%.

Bitcoin Selling Pressure Fading but Recovery May Take Months, Says Analyst Willy Woo

A short-term rebound toward the mid-$70,000 range is possible, though Woo said that level "would likely be rejected."

Bitcoin investor selling appears to be running out of steam, but a sustained recovery is likely months away, according to analyst Willy Woo and several other market observers.

Woo said on X Friday that "this bearish sell-down by investors seems to have exhausted," giving Bitcoin "a reprieve to consolidate sideways for maybe a month." A short-term rebound toward the mid-$70,000 range is possible, though Woo said that level "would likely be rejected."

Bitcoin has been trading between $60,000 and $70,000 for roughly three weeks and briefly dipped below $67,000 in late trading Thursday. Woo said spot and futures liquidity are both deteriorating, calling the broader market "heavily bearish." He added, "I've never seen BTC rally when both sources of liquidity are bearish."

His outlook puts a potential trend reversal in Q4 2026, with bullish momentum possibly returning in Q1 or Q2 2027. If global macroeconomic conditions worsen, Woo flagged $30,000 as the next support level and $16,000 as the threshold needed to preserve Bitcoin's long-term bull structure.

Bitwise chief investment officer Matt Hougan said Thursday that the sell-off stems from investors exiting their Bitcoin positions, citing the four-year cycle, concerns about quantum computing, and capital rotation toward AI startups. "They are mostly done selling, and we are in the process of bottoming," Hougan said. "This is a classic crypto winter, and there will be a classic crypto spring."

Bitrue research lead Andri Fauzan Adziima said that Bitcoin's weekly RSI oversold reading "strongly confirms that aggressive selling pressure has peaked or is fading."

"ETF holders and corporate treasuries are buying 6-month and 1-year puts at $60k or below ($60,000 put, a derivative contract offering protection against potential price slide below that level) as portfolio insurance," Jean-David Péquignot, chief commercial officer of derivatives exchange Deribit.
This put option works like insurance: It lets buyers sell bitcoin at $60,000 even if the price crashes lower, shielding ETF investors and corporate treasuries with BTC from steeper losses while they hold for the long haul.

Péquignot was responding to questions about surging interest in the $60,000 put. At the time of writing, those contracts had $1.50 billion in open interest – the highest across all strikes and expiries on Deribit. On the exchange, one contract represents one BTC. The platform accounts for nearly 80% of the global crypto options activity.

The surge in interest in $60,000 puts expiring in six months or longer signals deep fears that any price bounce could fizzle fast, paving the way for a sharper drop.
