Bitcoin Price: Why BTC Can’t Close Above the 200-Day MA, and What Breaks It

Bitcoin is trading around $78,500 today, down by 0.98% in the last 24 hours, and trading roughly 5% below the 200-day MA level at $82,300.

Bitcoin has closed Q2 at a high level in ten of the last 15 years, but three out of the last five years have seen the coin deliver negative returns, in 2021 (-40.8%), 2022 (-56.6%), and 2024 (-12%).

Bitcoin could sustain a move above its 200-day MA if the CLARITY Act clears the Senate before the end of June, ETF inflows remain elevated, and oil prices fall below $100.
Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC) is trading at $78,200 today, down by 1% in the last 24 hours, and trading roughly 5% below the 200-day MA level. The 200-day moving average, currently around $82,300, is the line that separates a recovering market from a confirmed bull run, and Bitcoin hasn’t closed above it since January.
The Bitcoin price has posted a positive second quarter in ten of the last fifteen years, per CryptoRank, which is why we looked at what it would take for BTC to finally close above the 200-day moving average before June ends.

Japan's SBI Securities, Rakuten Securities plan to offer crypto investment trustsTwo major Japanese securities firms plan to introduce cryptocurrency investment trusts once the Financial Services Agency finalizes the regulatory framework for such products, Nikkei Asia reported.

SBI Securities, the online brokerage business and investment banking unit of SBI Group, one of Japan’s largest financial companies and Rakuten Securities, the online broker subsidiary of Japan’s Rakuten Group internet conglomerate, will offer investment vehicles that allow customers to access crypto through their existing accounts. The products will make it easier for clients to gain exposure to the industry.

In a Nikkei survey of 18 companies, another 11 firms, including Nomura Securities, Daiwa Securities and Mizuho Securities, said they plan to consider entering the market when the regulatory process is finished.

The offerings will include exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and be developed by firms within the broader holding groups, the newspaper reported. Spot crypto ETFs were approved in the U.S. in January 2024, and those investing in bitcoin now hold more than $100 billion in net assets, according to SoSoValue data.

In early April, the Japanese government approved a draft amendment classifying cryptocurrencies as financial products under the Financial Instruments and Exchange Act, rather than treating them as payment tools. If passed by parliament, the law could take effect in fiscal 2027.

At the same time, Bitcoin miners have started increasing sell pressure.
According to analyst Ali Martinez:

While the amount is not massive, rising miner outflows have historically signaled periods of consolidation or temporary weakness.
Long term, clearer crypto regulations could be a huge win for Bitcoin. But in the near term, volatility and profit-taking may continue as the market cools down from extreme bullish sentiment. 🔥

In the final week of April, AMBCrypto had reported that $STABLE was trading within a range formation that reached from $0.024 to $0.039. On Tuesday, the 12th of May, a daily session close at $0.04, above the range highs, confirming a breakout.
