Wall Street behemoth Morgan Stanley has launched its long-awaited crypto trading pilot on its E*Trade platform, aiming to challenge major established players with competitive pricing.

Morgan Stanley Debuts Crypto Trading Pilot
Baking giant Morgan Stanley has rolled out a pilot to offer direct crypto trading on its E*Trade platform, with cheaper pricing than its competition, Bloomberg reported on Wednesday.

According to the report, the bank is charging E*Trade users a 50-basis-point fee on the transaction value, placing its prices below those of other major players. For instance, Robinhood’s fees start at 95 basis points, while Coinbase and Charles Schwab’s fees start at 60 and 75 basis points, respectively.

Morgan Stanley is currently offering its crypto trading pilot to a limited number of users, but expects to give access to all of E*Trade’s 8.6 million clients later this year. Jed Finn, Morgan Stanley’s head of wealth management, said in an interview that the launch is “much bigger than trading crypto at a cheaper rate,” adding that “the strategy is disintermediating the disintermediators.”

The banking giant bought E*Trade in 2020 for $13 billion. In May 2025, it introduced plans to allow crypto trading on the platform, following the Trump administration’s efforts to make the US “the crypto capital of the world.”

People familiar with the matter told Bloomberg that executives are preparing an offering to directly convert cryptocurrencies into shares of exchange-traded products (ETPs) without selling the assets. In addition, the bank reportedly plans to add the ability to trade tokenized equities in the second half of 2026.

Block Inc rises 8% as Q1 gives ‘earnings surprise’ despite Bitcoin dipJack Dorsey’s payments firm Block rose 7.9% in after-hours trading as its Q1 earnings surpassed analyst estimates, despite posting its first loss in three years.

Block’s Q1 earnings came in at 85 cents per share, beating the Zacks consensus estimate of 68 cents per share. Investors responded positively, driving Block shares to $75.70 after hours, Google Finance data shows.

“This quarterly report represents an earnings surprise of +25.68%,” said Zacks Equity Research on Thursday. “Over the last four quarters, the company has surpassed consensus EPS estimates two times.”

Expanding Bitcoin’s use into the payments space has been a key area of focus for Dorsey, who previously argued that widespread payment adoption is needed to fulfill Satoshi Nakamoto’s original vision of Bitcoin as a peer-to-peer electronic cash system. In late April, Block noted that over 800,000 US-based merchants have enabled Bitcoin transactions for everyday purchases.

Block reports first quarterly loss in three years

The earnings beat came despite Block reporting its first quarterly loss since 2023, driven by a 23.8% drop in the price of Bitcoin over the three-month period.

Q1 net loss was $309 million, which included a $172.8 million bitcoin remeasurement loss on the 8,883 Bitcoin it held as of March 31.

Bitcoin revenue from Cash App and other Block products fell to $1.8 billion from $2.33 billion a year ago.

Block attributed the fall to “Bitcoin trading dynamics” and a “strategic decision to reduce the fee” charged on certain Bitcoin transactions on Cash App

James Delmore, a research analyst at Breadcrumbs who has tracked crypto industry political spending since the 2024 cycle, took the Consensus Miami 2026 Policy Summit stage on Thursday to lay out where the money is going heading into November. The session arrived as the crypto industry sits on more political capital, literally, than at any previous point in its history.

The industry has committed over $288 million to the 2026 midterm cycle, according to available FEC data, more than double the roughly $130 million spent across the entire 2024 election.

Fairshake, the industry’s flagship super PAC backed by Coinbase, Ripple, and Andreessen Horowitz, holds approximately $221 million in unspent funds, making it the fifth most-funded PAC in the country.As crypto.news reported, a Fairshake-aligned group spent $514,000 in Indiana supporting Representative James Baird in his primary race. Fairshake and affiliated groups had already spent nearly $30 million on 2026 races by the end of March.

Earlier, Fairshake deployed $10.3 million opposing Illinois Lieutenant Governor Juliana Stratton in a Senate primary, mirroring a similar $10 million attack on Katie Porter in the 2024 California Senate primary.

The political context surrounding the session is defined by the CLARITY Act, which must reach the Senate floor before the August recess or risk losing its legislative window entirely.

As crypto.news noted, Ripple, Coinbase, and Andreessen Horowitz are among the largest backers of the spending push, collectively aiming to ensure the 120th Congress is the most pro-crypto session in U.S. history.
