In the last two weeks of April, ApeCoin rallied by more than 184%, reaching a value of $0.2786. Consequently, a massive correction that lasted for more than a month followed. This correction pulled back about 80% of the aforementioned rally.

The MACD bars show that bulls’ strength is increasing, though in the current session it has slowed down. The Choppiness Index (CHOP) at 40 is supporting a potential uptrend.

The upper resistance of the descending channel runs from $0.1903 to $0.1300. To stay bullish, $APE bulls need to keep the altcoin above $0.13, and it’s currently approaching it for a retest.

Failure to do so may render the breakout invalid. That would see $APE drop back to the channel. On the flip side, it may trade back to April highs of $0.2786 or higher.

Bitcoin’s volatility or price swings have eased and it is now closing in on gold.

In the past, most criticism from investment advisors against $BTC as a hedge or an alternative to gold has been that it’s too volatile to be included in clients’ portfolios.

The tightening gap in volatility, according to Bloomberg ETF analyst Eric Balchunas, could be a “good sign.”

Bitcoin’s volatility and correlation is getting closer and closer to gold’s, which is underreported and perhaps one positive from this rough patch.

The 60-day volatility index has dropped from over 60 to around 35 for BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT). Similarly, the gold ETF’s volatility dipped from 43 to around 25.

Citing insights from high-level ETF leaders, Balchunas added,

The big boy money out there (institutions, advisors) is not interested in tech stock returns from $BTC (they can get that in QQQ et al), they want gold-like returns, a true alternative asset because diversification is only free lunch.

According to him, the “true alternative asset” status can only be achieved if both assets have similar volatility. It remains to be seen if $BTC and gold will eventually close the volatility gap.

$BTC and gold ETF outflows deepen

The shrinking volatility among the two assets has also coincided with ETF outflows. Notably, overall $BTC ETF inflows topped $5B in early May. At the time of writing, the flows had dropped to nearly zero.

Gold has seen even more investor exits. For instance, gold ETFs recorded nearly $8 billion in outflows over the same period.

For JPMorgan analysts led by Nikolaos Panigirtzoglou, this was a cool-off of the “debasement trade” or demand for macro hedges as investors anticipate a likely U.S-Iran deal.

Nexo’s market-value-to-realized-value ratio has held steady at 1.16, even as Bitcoin prices lurched in recent sessions. The on-chain update from CryptoQuant suggests that large holders on the crypto lending platform are not rushing to liquidate positions. The figure, known as MVRV, compares the current market capitalization of all Bitcoin held on Nexo against the total cost basis of those holdings. A reading above 1 means the average holder is in profit, but the real story lies in its stability.

When Bitcoin’s spot price turned choppy, one might have expected that indicator to slide as users took chips off the table. Instead, the ratio barely budged. CryptoQuant contributor ArabxChain noted that “Large holders still prefer to retain the asset in order to benefit from the platform’s ecosystem and internal utility rather than fully exiting their positions during market downturns.” The persistence of a 1.16 print implies that the cohort on Nexo is not reacting to short-term volatility the way exchange-based wallets often do.

Platform Utility as Anchor

Nexo’s value proposition extends beyond simple custody. Users can earn yield on Bitcoin deposits, borrow against crypto collateral, and access token-based loyalty benefits. For large holders, that ecosystem turns a passive holding into a revenue-generating instrument. The MVRV signal captures behavior, not just intention. A flat ratio despite price swings means that most of the Bitcoin on Nexo remains untouched—no significant distribution into exchanges and no waves of profit-taking. In a market where fear can cascade quickly, that kind of subdued action is unusual and worth noting.
