The market for bitcoin-backed credit could undergo a major scale change in the coming years. According to a report shared by Ledn, this still marginal segment today could reach $1 trillion in the long term. A projection that comes as the crypto industry is still trying to move past the 2022 bankruptcies and the shock caused by Celsius, Voyager, or BlockFi.
Ledn estimates that the market for Bitcoin-backed loans could reach $1 trillion in the coming years.

A study reveals a large gap between investor interest in these products and their actual adoption.

Bitcoin is gradually establishing itself as financial collateral allowing liquidity without selling assets.

The bankruptcies of Celsius, Voyager, and BlockFi continue to fuel distrust in crypto credit.

The crypto lender Ledn estimates that the market for Bitcoin-backed loans could grow from $3 billion today to $1 trillion in the next ten years. This projection is based on a study conducted by Protocol Theory with 1,244 crypto holders in the United States and Australia between February and March.
The figures presented in the report show a major gap between theoretical interest and actual adoption in the sector :

88 % of respondents state they are considering a crypto-backed loan ;

Only 14 % currently use this type of product ;

Ledn talks about a 6 to 1 gap between interest and adoption ;

The total crypto market capitalization was $2.68 trillion during this May ;

Galaxy Research valued the overall crypto lending market at $73.6 billion in Q3 2025.

The report compares this model to mechanisms already established in traditional finance, such as Lombard credit or mortgage loans. Indeed, the goal is to obtain liquidity without selling one’s cryptos.

The Bhutanese government has transferred approximately $237 million worth of Bitcoin to SegWit addresses so far this year, according to on-chain data monitored by Arkham Intelligence. A recent transaction involving 90 $BTC, valued at around $7 million, has drawn attention from market analysts and fueled speculation about the government’s intentions with its digital asset reserves.

As chair of the Senate Banking subcommittee on digital assets, Senator Cynthia Lummis is advocating the CLARITY Act as the long-awaited answer to the "regulatory limbo" that exists for cryptocurrencies in the United States. She claims that years of unclear, contradictory rules have driven domestic innovation and capital overseas, forcing developers and exchanges to speculate on whether the SEC, CFTC, or yet another body will come knocking next. She argues the bill would create a basic market-structure framework by clearly classifying tokens into either securities or commodities categories and creating clear jurisdictional boundaries between regulators, hence substituting enforcement volatility with legal
certainty. Essentially, the Act seeks to specify precisely how federal law treats market participants by requiring unambiguous token-classification criteria, disclosure requirements, and supervision duties.
Supporters think this change from a "whack-a-mole" enforcement stance to codified
regulations would boost company confidence, reduce compliance costs, and stop the exodus of talent to international jurisdictions already providing more explicit crypto frameworks. The bill aims to re-anchor blockchain innovation within the United States instead of seeing it relocate internationally by providing a clear set of rules to developers, exchanges, and middlemen. Though it still needs reconciliation with any House-driven crypto market-structure legislation and a final presidential sign-off, the CLARITY Act has already cleared the Senate Banking Committee and is charging toward a full-chamber vote. Traders and protocol developers view Lummiss legislative drive as a sign that Washington is turning toward a rules-based system as opposed to ad hoc enforcement. In a recent update aimed at addressing criticism of the Ethereum Foundation (EF), Vitalik Buterin proposed that the foundation will reduce its future Ethereum [ETH] sales. 

In a post on X, Buterin pointed out that EF is starting to prioritize “longevity over breadth.” 

Buterin added, 

The EF focuses *specifically* on those activities critical to the success of ethereum as a censorship/capture-resistant, open, private and secure system, that would not happen otherwise.

This comes after a string of well-known EF departures, which have reignited debate about the foundation’s future. At least eight senior EF contributors have left or announced plans to do so in 2026, including five in May. 

Buterin also acknowledged the Ethereum Foundation’s 2025 efforts, which resulted in numerous enhancements and the resolution of various issues.
