The price of bitcoin has been closely tracking the 2026 realized price, currently around $76,200, according to Checkonchain, since the beginning of April.

The realized price is the average onchain acquisition cost of all bitcoin that last moved within a specific year. In other words, it reflects the aggregate cost basis of market participants from 2026, and some market participants see it as a more meaningful gauge than traditional psychological support or resistance price levels.

In February, when bitcoin plunged to nearly $60,000, the market found support close to the 2023 realized price, reinforcing the growing importance of these cohort cost-basis levels in shaping market structure.

This weekend, the largest cryptocurrency briefly dropped to $74,500 before rebounding from its 128-day moving average, another closely watched technical level.

At its current price, bitcoin is trading below two major onchain metrics clustered around $77,000: the true market mean and the short-term holder cost basis. Both levels are widely monitored as indicators of broader market sentiment and short-term positioning.

Attention is also turning toward the May 29 options expiry on Deribit, where roughly $6.6 billion in open interest is set to expire.

The largest concentration of call options, about $600 million, sits at the $80,000 strike price. The largest put positioning is concentrated at $75,000, with around $377 million in open interest. Market makers and traders are incentivized to keep price action pinned between these levels as expiry approaches, contributing to the current period of compressed volatility.

HYPE has already pushed above its previous high and now trades in price discovery. TRX sits roughly 18% below its peak, while WBT trades around 13% below its own record.
HYPE Breaks Past Previous All-Time High and Enters Price Discovery
The Hyperliquid daily chart shows a clean breakout structure above the previous record near $59.50. The token bounced off an ascending trend line on May 14 and has trended higher ever since.
The most recent leg cleared the 0.786
Fibonacci retracement resistance at $51, with a fresh volume spike confirming the move into uncharted territory. RSI sits near 76, well in bullish territory but not yet at extreme overbought readings.
Background volume has been declining for several weeks, which forms a small divergence against the breakout candle.
Traders may want confirmation of continued buying before assuming the price discovery phase extends much further.

1. Hawkish on Inflation With a Smaller Balance Sheet in Mind
Warsh has long argued the post-2008 Fed grew too large and too active. He resigned in 2011 over additional quantitative easing and has spent the years since calling for scarcer reserves, a leaner balance sheet, and tighter discipline on inflation.
That framework now meets the moment. The federal funds target sits at 3.50 to 3.75%, headline inflation climbed to 3.3% in March on an Iran-driven oil shock, and the March dot plot pencils in just one cut for 2026.

At his Senate confirmation hearing, Warsh framed the central bank's delayed inflation response as structural rather than a one-off mistake.
"Once you let inflation take hold in the economy, it is more expensive and harder to bring it down, and so the fatal policy error going back four or five years is still a legacy that we are dealing with... we need a regime change in the conduct of policy."
Traders read that as a signal for faster quantitative tightening (QT) over near-term rate cuts.
