Here's a storyline nobody saw coming just a year ago: a prediction market platform is now out-earning one of the most active meme coin launchpads in crypto — on a random Saturday.
On May 31st, according to DefiLlama data, Polymarket generated $999,000 in protocol revenue in just 24 hours, edging past Pump.fun's $848,000 to claim the 5th spot among all crypto protocols by daily revenue. And to top it off, Polymarket's cumulative total protocol revenue has now crossed the $60 million milestone.
This is not a fluke. This is a business.
What makes this even more remarkable is the timing.
This comes just days after Polymarket was in the headlines for all the wrong reasons — a $700K exploit tied to a compromised private key. Most platforms would be in damage-control mode. Instead, Polymarket turned around and posted one of its strongest revenue days on record. That's not luck. That's platform depth.
So how is Polymarket actually making this money?
Polymarket runs a maker-taker fee model where only takers — the side removing liquidity from the order book — pay fees, while makers who post resting orders actually earn rebates.
