On April 21, Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon remarked in an interview that the risk of a U.S. recession could potentially swing “on just one tweet.” He added that, at present, overall market expectations for a recession remain relatively optimistic.
His comment highlights a growing reality in modern financial markets: sentiment is extremely sensitive to fast-moving information. In today’s environment, political statements, policy signals, and even social media posts can trigger immediate and sometimes sharp market reactions.
This is not just theoretical. Last week, markets reacted to a statement linked to Donald Trump regarding Iran and the Strait of Hormuz (which has not been confirmed by Iranian authorities). The remark briefly lifted equities while pushing oil prices lower, underscoring how quickly narratives can influence global asset prices.
However, Goldman Sachs spokesperson Tony Fratto later clarified that Solomon’s comment was meant in a humorous context, stating: “Anyone who watched the interview could clearly see that David was obviously joking.”
Still, the broader message remains relevant: in an era dominated by real-time information flow, markets are increasingly driven by headlines, tweets, and perception shifts — sometimes as much as by fundamentals.

Polymarket taps Bitget Wallet's over 90 million users with integration
Polymarket said allowing Bitget Wallet users to access its prediction market through their existing digital wallets “provides a powerful entry point for a global user base.”

Bitget Wallet said there will be AI assistance, specifically sports analysis
Bitget Wallet, which has over 90 million users globally, said clients will now be able to access Polymarket's prediction markets via its self-custodial wallet platform.

"The integration brings prediction markets into Bitget Wallet's decentralized interface, expanding access to information-driven trading tied to real-world events and market moving developments," Bitget said in a statement.

For its part, Polymarket, which is angling to maintain its position as a dominant onchain prediction market platform, views the integration as providing access to Bitget's user base. Kalshi is Polymarket's biggest rival.

“As prediction markets evolve into core financial infrastructure, distribution becomes as important as the underlying market itself,” Polymarket Chief Marketing Officer Matthew Modabber said. “Bitget Wallet provides a powerful entry point for a global user base, extending Polymarket’s reach and enabling more participants to engage directly with real-time, market-based signals.”
Polymarket is seeking to raise $400 million in new funding at a $15 billion valuation, The Information reported on Sunday, citing sources familiar with the matter. Bernstein analysts estimate that prediction market volumes will scale from around $51 billion in 2025 to $1 trillion by 2030.

Bitget said it is also introducing "AI-powered sports event analysis" to "help users interpret market conditions more effectively."

Sports betting continues to be popular across both Polymarket and rival Kalshi's platforms.

Bank of Korea's New Governor Backs CBDCs, Skips Stablecoins

Shin said these combined efforts "will elevate the status of the Korean won in the digital payment environment."

Shin Hyun-song, the newly appointed governor of the Bank of Korea, voiced support for central bank digital currencies and tokenized deposits in his inaugural address in Seoul on Tuesday, while making no mention of won-denominated stablecoins.

Shin, who began a four-year term following an inauguration ceremony, said the central bank will advance the second phase of "Project Hangang," a Bank of Korea-led pilot program designed to test a blockchain-based wholesale CBDC system.

He also pointed to the Agora Project, a cross-border payments initiative launched in April 2024 by the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) and seven central banks exploring the tokenization of international transactions. Shin said these combined efforts "will elevate the status of the Korean won in the digital payment environment."

The omission of stablecoins from his remarks was notable. Prior reporting had suggested Shin was open to won-backed stablecoins, but no such commitment appeared in Tuesday's address.

South Korea's stablecoin framework remains stalled in its legislature, with regulators and lawmakers divided over whether won-pegged token issuance should be restricted to commercial banks or extended to non-bank players such as fintech and technology companies.

Shin flagged broader macroeconomic concerns in the address, citing rising geopolitical tensions and their effect on oil prices. He called on the Bank of Korea to adapt through "prudent and flexible monetary policy" in response to inflation pressures and shifts in the global economy.

$XRP price pulled back slightly on Monday as sentiment in the crypto industry worsened and the Fear and Greed Index exited the greed zone. Ripple token was trading at $1.4096 on Monday, down slightly from last week’s high of $1.5083. Still, the coin has formed a double bottom pattern, pointing to a rebound as ETF inflows jump.

Ripple token retreated slightly as sentiment in the crypto industry worsened. Data shows that the Crypto Fear and Greed Index dropped from the greed zone of 61 last week to the neutral point at 51.

The Fear and Greed Index has retreated as investors reacted to the major risks that happened in the industry this weekend.

For example, there are fears of market manipulation in the industry after the spectacular rise and collapse of RaveDAO, a token that moved from $0.5 to a high of $28 and then plunged to below $1 within a few days. ZachXBT has warned that the price action is a sign of market manipulation by insiders.

In another major development, hackers drained cryptocurrencies worth over $225 million from a top player in the DeFi industry. As a result, investors pulled over $5 billion from Aave, the biggest lending protocol in the industry. This hack came a few weeks after hackers drained tokens worth over $200 million from Drift.

On the positive side, data shows that investors are buying $XRP ETFs aggressively. Spot $XRP ETFs added over $65 million in assets this month, a big turnaround as these funds shed over $30 million last month.

Bitwise is still the biggest player in the $XRP ETF industry with over $331 million in assets, and is then followed by Canary, Franklin, and 21Shares. Grayscale’s GXRP is the smallest fund with over $68 million in assets.

A consortium of 12 European banks operating under the Qivalis venture has selected Fireblocks to build the infrastructure for a MiCA-compliant euro stablecoin, with a launch targeted in the second half of 2026, pending approval from Dutch regulators.

Qivalis, incorporated in Amsterdam and backed by major institutions including BBVA, BNP Paribas, ING, and UniCredit, plans to issue a fully regulated, 1:1-backed euro token structured as an electronic money institution under Dutch supervision. De Nederlandsche Bank, the Netherlands' central bank, would grant the required approval under the European Union's Markets in Crypto Assets Regulation framework.

Fireblocks will supply tokenization technology, wallet infrastructure, and custody services, along with compliance tools covering identity verification and sanctions screening. A Fireblocks spokesperson described the project as a "regulated euro-native settlement instrument" built for European institutions rather than relying on dollar-based alternatives.

The stablecoin is designed primarily for institutional use, including settlement, treasury operations, and tokenized asset transactions. Qivalis was established in late 2025 as a joint venture to pool governance across European banks under a single structure for euro stablecoin issuance.

Dollar-denominated stablecoins currently account for roughly 99% of the approximately $320 billion global stablecoin market, according to DeFiLlama data, with euro-pegged tokens representing a marginal share. European banks and policymakers have been accelerating efforts to reduce that imbalance in digital payments and settlement infrastructure.
