The $75,000 level is where most trading in call options, which represent bullish bets, has happened, according to data source Glassnode. Around $395 million in call open interest is concentrated at the $75,000 strike as of writing. That figure represents the dollar value of the number of active call options contracts today.

Bitmine buys 101,627 ether worth over $230 million, its largest weekly haul of 2026


BitMine Immersion Technologies (BMNR), the largest Ethereum-focused digital asset treasury firm, sped up its crypto purchase pace as chairman Tom Lee sees growing signs of the crypto "mini-winter" ending.

The firm reported Monday it acquired 101,627 ether ($ETH) last week, its largest weekly haul since December 15. The purchase, worth roughly over $230 million at current $ETH prices, lifted BitMine’s total holdings to 4.97 million $ETH.

The move comes as most digital asset treasuries — except Michael Saylor's bitcoin-focused Strategy (MSTR) — have slowed or halted buying in recent months. BitMine remains among the last large-scale buyers of ether-focused treasuries, continuing to provide a steady source of demand for $ETH.

BitMine’s total crypto and cash holdings stand at $12.9 billion. In addition to its $ETH treasury, the firm holds 199 bitcoin, $1.12 billion in cash and equity stakes including investments in Beast Industries and Eightco Holdings.

Chairman Thomas Lee said the firm sees signs that the recent downturn is nearing an end, pointing to $ETH’s rebound and broader market dynamics.

"Bitmine has maintained the increased pace of $ETH buys in each of the past four weeks, as our base case $ETH is in the final stages of the 'mini-crypto winter,'" Lee said.

He added that ether has risen sharply from its early February lows and has outperformed equities since the start of the Iran conflict, supported by demand tied to tokenization and AI-related use cases.

BitMine has also continued expanding its staking operations. The firm has staked more than 3.3 million $ETH, or about two-third of its holdings, generating roughly $221 million in annualized revenue.

Since the "Rollup as a Service" (RaaS) era, the fate of L1 has been sealed. This is a harbinger of the execution layer spiraling into commoditization.

I mean, the general L1 token will continue to approach zero, and likely without exception. I will try to explain why, and how I would change course if I were an L1 operator.

The main drivers of L1's failure are: linear token release, a flawed value proposition, poor governance, and industry "leadership."

I will briefly elaborate on these points—these are personal opinions, not definitive conclusions.

The current form of linear staking release has some advantages, namely distribution through liquidity staking ("My 7% annualized!"), but it fails in several key areas.

Delegated Proof-of-Stake (DPoS) makes it easy for theoretical "decentralization fundamentalists" to participate in cybersecurity, but it doesn't properly incentivize insiders, users, and developers. At best, it incentivizes people to hold tokens, offering no real value creation.

 The classic argument I've heard about PoS is that large validators have an economic incentive not to dump their tokens on you. But this doesn't stop them from selling every possible unlocked amount and block reward.

This leads to my next point: they sell because L1 tokens lack a long-term value proposition.

A fragile "tissue"

The arguments about "gas tokens" and "governance" are old hat and utterly unconvincing—like two Bounty tissues, they fall apart with a single soak. The value of a network token depends on what you can buy with it.

Therefore, the goal of all blockchain teams should be to promote their tokens as widely as possible as possible as a form of currency. In the pursuit of higher TPS and lower block times, the industry's vision of "peer-to-peer electronic cash" seems to have been lost.
