Bitcoin’s dominance hovering around 57% has become a quiet alarm bell for traders watching the broader crypto and altcoin market in general — and for good reason.

Bears And Bulls Divided Over Altcoin Timing
Crypto analyst Michael van de Poppe believes a brutal clearing out is coming for the altcoin market, but he does not see it as a collapse. He sees it as cleanup.

According to van de Poppe, roughly 99% of all altcoins are headed to zero — and he thinks that outcome is fair.

He draws a parallel to the early internet era, when hundreds of companies launched, burned through investor money, and vanished. What remained built the modern web.

Despite that stark forecast, van de Poppe says he has rarely been more optimistic about where crypto is heading. Reports indicate he described this as one of the most bullish periods he has seen for the asset class overall, even as most individual tokens face extinction.

His focus has narrowed to a handful of projects he believes can survive the shakeout — Bitcoin, Ethereum, and select decentralized finance platforms like Aave. Short-term pain in DeFi, he says, stems from the KelpDAO hack. But he views that as temporary turbulence, not a structural break.

Arbitrum, the layer-2 blockchain of Ethereum, froze over 30,000 Ether, or over $71.2 million, in a wallet linked to the recent Kelp protocol exploit on Monday.

On Monday, Arbitrum said that a 12-member security committee chosen by the Arbitrum community had taken “emergency action” to seize 30,766 Ether from a wallet linked to the Kelp vulnerability. It went on to say that the original holding address could no longer access the ETH since it had been transferred to “an intermediary frozen wallet”; only further action by Arbitrum governance could restore access to the funds.

On Saturday, the LayerZero-powered bridge of the liquid restaking protocol Kelp was hacked for a minimum of $293 million. LayerZero has since accused North Korea of being responsible for the assault. The attackers borrowed cryptocurrency on the Aave lending platform using stolen Kelp tokens, resulting in millions of dollars’ worth of “bad debt” in the intricate crypto lending market.

Decentralization Debate

Blockchain crypto freezes are a contentious topic in the cryptocurrency industry, with some saying they undermine the technology’s intended use and others saying they improve security and keep networks running smoothly.

Given that the freeze was imposed by a council ordinance, some X users voiced their disapproval of Arbitrum and raised concerns about its decentralization. Arbitrum Security Council member Griff Green wrote on X that the committee deliberated this issue for several hours, debating all aspects of it from a technical to a practical to an ethical and political perspective. Although Green could not provide any further information, but did mention that nine out of the twelve council members decided to freeze the funds.

XRP continues to trade within a broader corrective trend but is now showing early signs of short-term strength after holding the macro demand zone.

Following the breakdown below $1.71 (0.236 Fib), price found strong support near $1.11 – $1.30 and has since rebounded. XRP is currently consolidating around $1.40 – $1.45, attempting to push higher after a period of tight compression.

While momentum is improving, the overall structure remains corrective unless higher resistance levels are reclaimed.

Price is now interacting with the 20 & 50 EMA, signaling early bullish pressure.

A short-term bullish crossover zone is forming (20 ≈ 50)

However, price still remains below the 100 & 200 EMA, meaning macro trend is still bearish


The $1.40 – $1.42 zone is now acting as immediate pivot support/resistance.
