The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) has handed out its first stablecoin licenses, and the winners are Standard Chartered’s JV and HSBC.

HKMA Has Released First Stablecoin Licenses After A Delay
According to HKMA’s website, two entities have now become registered stablecoin issuers in Hong Kong: Anchorpoint Financial Limited and The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited.

Hong Kong launched its stablecoin bill called the Stablecoins Ordinance back in August 2025, establishing a licensing regime for stablecoin issuers. Under this law, parties interested in issuing fiat-tied cryptocurrencies in the Chinese city have to first obtain a license from the HKMA.

Major names quickly lined up to apply for a license. This included HSBC and Anchorpoint Financial Limited. The latter is a joint venture (JV) created by Standard Chartered, Animoca Brands, and Hong Kong Telecom. In total, the HKMA ended up receiving applications from 36 entities. Despite the high interest, though, Eddie Yue, the financial regulator’s chief executive, said in February that a “very small number” of licenses would be granted in the first wave.

Yue also said that these licenses would arrive in March, but in the end, no licenses were issued during that month, suggesting a delay from the HKMA. However, today, on April 10th, the first batch has finally gone out.

With just two licenses being handed out, Yue indeed set up the correct expectations. As mentioned earlier, Standard Chartered’s JV and HSBC are the applicants who have received the first approval. Thus, these banks have a head start over the rest when it comes to stablecoins in the region.

Ether Machine cancels $1.5B Nasdaq listing deal, cites ‘unfavorable’ conditions

The Ether Machine, the world’s third-largest $ETH treasury firm, has shelved its plan for public listing on the Nasdaq exchange.

In a statement on Saturday, the 11th of April, the firm said it mutually agreed with Dynamix Corporation to terminate their proposed merger, citing ‘unfavorable’ market conditions.

The initial plan, first floated in July 2025, was a $1.5 billion deal with massive $ETH holdings, aimed at combining the two businesses to form a publicly listed $ETH treasury firm.

At that time, $ETH traded above $3.4K, with Ether Machine’s 334K $ETH holdings valued at over $1 billion.

In fact, $ETH rallied higher to over $4.8K only to dump hard as the broader crypto market rout deepened after the October crash. At the press time value of $2.2K, $ETH was down 52% from the October high of $4.7K.

It remains to be seen whether Ether Machine will explore another public listing if the market recovers.

Ether Machine joins the $ETH staking frenzy

That said, the Ether Machine initially sought to be the largest $ETH treasury firm. It had planned to own 10% of the $ETH circulating supply, or about 12 million $ETH. Compared to BitMine’s ‘5% Alchemy’ or 6 million $ETH, such a move would have made the Ether Machine the top $ETH treasury firm.

With the muted Nasdaq listing, it’s unclear whether its 10% $ETH supply goal still holds. Even so, the firm made its last $ETH buy in October and currently holds 496.71K $ETH, worth $1B.

Interestingly, the firm’s entire $ETH stash is reportedly staked and currently earning rewards. Similar staking moves have been made by SharpLink and BitMine, which target $300M in annual revenue from its 4.8 million $ETH holdings.

The major rally and the deep retracement since then must have rocked investor confidence. Based on the 1-day chart’s price action, it can be argued that the move below the swing low at $0.225 earlier this month has shifted the structure bearishly.

On the other hand, the volume on 4 April was the highest daily volume since 7 February. It was a statement of intent from the buyers as they rescued SIREN’s price from falling even further below the $0.225 swing low.

The OBV made new highs following this spike in demand, with the Stochastic RSI climbing back from the bearish extreme and heading higher. The MACD also seemed to be laboring to climb back above the zero line.

Which way should SIREN traders form their bias?
The recent momentum and buying volume were a fantastic recovery from the extremely deep retracement. At the same time, the retracement in question might have been a structural shift.

Based on the evidence at hand, the latter scenario appeared more likely. Given the market sentiment and potential for a Bitcoin [BTC] sell-off, traders should be prepared to take profits at key resistance levels.
