A proposed court deal in the movie2k case could put another 57,000 Bitcoin within reach of the German state, reviving a supply-overhang story that the market thought had largely passed after Saxony’s 2024 Bitcoin liquidation. Local news MDR reported this week that the presiding judge has outlined a possible agreement that would let Saxony keep the €2.64 billion ($3.112 billion) already raised from last year’s Bitcoin sale and potentially obtain access to additional coins allegedly still controlled by the main defendant.

The case centers on the former operators of the illegal streaming portal movie2k.to, now on trial. The lead defendant, 42, is charged in part with commercial money laundering, while a second defendant, 39, faces money-laundering and tax-evasion allegations. The original copyright offenses tied to roughly 220,000 unauthorized works are now time-barred, but the fight over the Bitcoin fortune remains very much alive. After the main defendant’s arrest in 2023, authorities received 49,858 $BTC, which were later sold in June and July 2024 for about €2.64 billion.

According to MDR’s reporting, the judge sketched the deal on Monday as a way to shorten proceedings rather than litigate every alleged money-laundering violation one by one. Under that outline, the main defendant would confess and receive a prison sentence of one to one-and-a-half years, suspended on probation, while the co-defendant would receive eight to 12 months, also suspended. The real market-moving clause is elsewhere: Saxony would be able to lawfully confiscate the 2024 sale proceeds, and the defendant would also hand over access to another 57,000 $BTC (worth roughly $4.224 billion) that prosecutors believe he still controls.

Two suspects were arrested in San Francisco after allegedly firing at OpenAI CEO Sam Altman’s home early Sunday morning, the second attack on the property in three days, as federal and local prosecutors escalate charges against a separate suspect from an earlier Molotov cocktail incident.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman’s San Francisco home was targeted for a second time in three days on April 13, when a Honda sedan carrying two people stopped outside the property on Lombard Street and a shot was allegedly fired from the passenger window. The San Francisco Police Department arrested Amanda Tom, 25, and Muhamad Tarik Hussein, 23, who were booked on charges of negligent discharge of a firearm. Three firearms were seized from their home following a warrant.

No injuries were reported in either incident.

What Happened Across Both Incidents

The first attack occurred in the early hours of April 10, when 20-year-old Daniel Moreno-Gama, a Texas resident, allegedly threw a lit Molotov cocktail at the driveway gate of Altman’s home, setting it on fire. He then walked to OpenAI’s Mission Bay headquarters and struck the glass doors with a chair while threatening to “burn it down and kill anyone inside.” He was arrested at the scene.

The FBI described the first attack as “planned, targeted and extremely serious.” Federal and local prosecutors charged Moreno-Gama with attempted murder of both Altman and his security guard, attempted arson, possession of an unregistered firearm, and attempted destruction of property by means of explosives. The US Attorney for the Northern District of California said domestic terrorism charges may also follow.

Cryptocurrency analytics company Santiment has revealed the most active Layer-2 networks based on developer activity, using GitHub data from the past 30 days.

The data reveals that competition continues unabated, particularly among Ethereum scaling solutions, with Starknet and Aztec maintaining their top positions.

According to Santiment data, developer activity metrics reflect the technical progress of projects on GitHub and ecosystem growth, with leadership in this area considered a critical indicator of long-term fundamental strength.

Starknet ($STRK) maintained its top position with 117 points of developer activity, while the privacy-focused Layer-2 solution Aztec ($AZTEC) came in second with 116.27 points. Arbitrum ($ARB) retained its third-place position with 73.37 points.

On the other hand, Optimism (OP) rose to fourth place compared to last month, while zkSync (ZK) dropped in the rankings to fifth place.

Bitcoin has climbed nearly 10% this month, but the rally is running into resistance near $75,000. The pause is notable as U.S. stocks push to record highs.

On-chain data shows holders are selling into strength, helping explain the slowdown.

It is evident from an on-chain indicator called realized profit/loss, which tracks the total dollar value of gains or losses locked in by holders when they move their coins on-chain. The indicator compares the current price at which coins are being moved with the price at which they last moved (the assumed acquisition cost), effectively showing whether investors are selling at a profit or a loss.

Values above 1 indicate increased profit-taking, and the 30-day exponential moving average (EMA) is currently well above that threshold. The EMA is used to smooth out day-to-day noise and highlight the broader trend in realized profits.

"Profit-taking activity is rising, with the 30D EMA of the Realized Profit/Loss Ratio at 1.16, indicating investors are selling into strength. A sustained move above $78.1K will require the market to absorb this overhead supply," the firm said in a report.

Profit-taking was particularly strong on Tuesday as Bitcoin briefly climbed toward $76,000 before quickly slipping back below $75,000. According to CryptoQuant, investors realized about $1.14 billion in profits during the move, one of the largest single-day readings this year.

The indicator, though widely tracked, has limitations, mainly that it assumes coins moving on-chain are being sold. In reality, they may simply be moving between wallets or exchanges for custody, rebalancing, or internal transfers.

Data from SoSoValue shows that Spot Bitcoin ETFs have seen stronger inflows than outflows since the start of last week. On April 6, Bitcoin ETFs posted their largest single-day inflow since the beginning of March, with more than $471.3 million flowing into these investment products. BlackRock’s IBIT had led this massive inflow with approximately $181.9 million. This was followed by Fidelity’s FBTC, which recorded inflows of about $147.3 million.

Following this, Bitcoin ETFs saw sharp outflows for two consecutive days, with $159.05 million withdrawn on April 7 and another $125.55 million leaving the fund on April 8. The decline in flows coincided with the US-Iran ceasefire announcement, which ironically should have bolstered market sentiment and yielded more positive results. However, the outflows continued, with Fidelity’s FBTC recording the highest outflows, followed by Grayscale’s GBTC and BlackRock’s IBIT.
