Two Prime’s Alex Blume says one dominant buyer has changed the market structure.

So-called "basis traders" are done dragging down the Bitcoin market just as one dominant buyer is accelerating its purchases, according to Alex Blume, CEO of investment adviser Two Prime.

The sharp drop in futures positioning shows that what's known as the “basis trade,” which weighed on the market for months, is largely finished. Meanwhile, Bitcoin treasury firm Strategy has stockpiled nearly $60 billion in the top crypto.

“When directional capital makes a decision, it moves [the] price,” Blume said in a note shared with DL News. “The combination of one large directional buyer systematically accumulating while hedged yield farmers exit is an unusual market structure.”

Blume’s assessment lands amid a striking divergence between the cryptocurrency industry and other global markets. On Friday, the S&P 500 hit a new record high while Bitcoin still remains roughly 40% below its October peak near $126,000.

On April 19, 2026, a $293 million hack of KelpDAO triggered a chain reaction that sent shockwaves through the DeFi ecosystem, with AAVE being hit hard. Around 116,500 rsETH—roughly 18% of the token’s circulating supply was stolen from KelpDAO in an elaborate cyber attack, and now the whole decentralized lending economy is reeling from its aftershocks. The attacks were reportedly carried out by the North Korean Lazarus Group and funded through the notorious mixer Tornado Cash.The trouble didn’t end with the KelpDAO hack, as a popular influencer commented:The stolen rsETH was immediately deposited as collateral on Aave’s DeFi markets. Attackers borrowed roughly $236 million in wrapped ETH (WETH) and other assets, leaving Aave with an estimated $177–200 million in unbacked “bad debt”. This, in turn, triggered widespread panic among AAVE users, many of whom rushed to withdraw their funds. However, the sudden frenzy has resulted in delayed/canceled withdrawals and a general state of helplessness among DeFi users.AAVE’s Total Value Locked (TVL) plummeted by $6.6–8.45 billion within 48 hours, dropping from around $26 billion to roughly $18 billion, according to DeFiLlama data. The token itself corrected sharply by 15–20%, reflecting widespread lack of confidence right now. It remains to be seen whether it can bounce back from this major drop or continue its free fall.On-chain analytics CryptoQuant tweeted:A total of 355,000 AAVE (approximately $32 million) was deposited on cryptocurrency exchanges in the immediate aftermath of this episode, CryptoQuant reported. Expert Analyst Delves Deep into Bitcoin: “Both Rises and Falls Aren’t What They Used to Be!”

Although the price of Bitcoin ($BTC) increases numerically in each cycle, its actual upward momentum and potential are decreasing.

Galaxy Digital research head Alex Thorn argues that the current Bitcoin market cycle is dramatically weaker compared to the previous three cycles.

At this point, Thorn compared the price movements since the Bitcoin halving in April 2024 to the 2012, 2016, and 2020 cycles.

The study concluded that volatility has significantly decreased in the current cycle and the upside potential is lower.

Although Bitcoin reached its all-time high of over $125,000 on October 5, 2025, it only managed to surpass 97% of its 2024 halving price of approximately $63,000. According to the analyst, this indicates that the peak of the cycle so far has been significantly calmer compared to other cycles.

This increase is quite small compared to other cycles. According to historical data, in the 2012 halving cycle, the $BTC price increased by approximately 9,294%, rising to $1,163. In 2016, it approached $19,891 with an increase of approximately 2,950%, and finally, in the 2020 cycle, a gain of approximately 761% was observed.

According to the analyst, the decreasing volatility with each new $BTC halving cycle indicates that traditional market dynamics are changing and that the price is becoming more influenced by factors other than the four-year halving cycle theory.

While bull cycles in Bitcoin are becoming less frequent, Fidelity analysts also note that with decreasing volatility, Bitcoin declines are becoming less severe.

At this point, according to Zack Wainwright, research analyst at Fidelity Digital Assets, declines in previous Bitcoin bear markets ranged from 80% to 90%. However, in the latest cycle, Bitcoin’s drop from its all-time high of $125,000 to $60,000 represents a decline of approximately 50%.

BitMine Immersion Technologies (BMNR), the largest Ethereum-focused digital asset treasury firm, sped up its crypto purchase pace as chairman Tom Lee sees growing signs of the crypto "mini-winter" ending.

The firm reported Monday it acquired 101,627 ether ($ETH) last week, its largest weekly haul since December 15. The purchase, worth roughly over $230 million at current $ETH prices, lifted BitMine’s total holdings to 4.97 million $ETH.

The move comes as most digital asset treasuries — except Michael Saylor's bitcoin-focused Strategy (MSTR) — have slowed or halted buying in recent months. BitMine remains among the last large-scale buyers of ether-focused treasuries, continuing to provide a steady source of demand for $ETH.

BitMine’s total crypto and cash holdings stand at $12.9 billion. In addition to its $ETH treasury, the firm holds 199 bitcoin, $1.12 billion in cash and equity stakes including investments in Beast Industries and Eightco Holdings.

Chairman Thomas Lee said the firm sees signs that the recent downturn is nearing an end, pointing to $ETH’s rebound and broader market dynamics.

"Bitmine has maintained the increased pace of $ETH buys in each of the past four weeks, as our base case $ETH is in the final stages of the 'mini-crypto winter,'" Lee said.

He added that ether has risen sharply from its early February lows and has outperformed equities since the start of the Iran conflict, supported by demand tied to tokenization and AI-related use cases.

BitMine has also continued expanding its staking operations. The firm has staked more than 3.3 million $ETH, or about two-third of its holdings, generating roughly $221 million in annualized revenue.
