Is Ripple’s XRP Poised To Dominate The Next DeFi Wave? One Pundit Thinks So
Ripple-promoted XRP is once again attracting attention across the cryptosphere as expectations build around its role in the next evolution of decentralized finance (DeFi). 

With growing momentum in DeFi innovation, one expert believes XRP could emerge as a key driver in the sector’s next major adoption wave, potentially reshaping how value moves across blockchain networks.
In a post on X, popular XRPL validator Vet noted that traditional decentralized finance still has “a long way to go” before it can realistically usurp traditional finance. However, he also suggested that XRP is well positioned to play a key role in enabling a more sustainable transition by bridging the gap between conventional financial systems and the emerging decentralized economy.

In his view, XRP’s underlying protocol is uniquely designed for high-value financial applications, making it especially well-suited for use cases that aim to rival the core infrastructure of traditional finance (TradFi) in terms of efficiency and scalability.
Vet suggests that while many in the market may not be ready for what’s coming, the shift is inevitable—driven by XRP’s superior and more robust protocol design. Built to handle high-value use cases at scale, the pundit believes the XRPL is uniquely positioned to power a new era in which DeFi doesn’t just compete with traditional finance but begins to replace it.

GSR has stepped into the exchange-traded fund market with a new product that blends active management and multi-asset exposure, signaling a broader push to connect traditional finance with digital assets. The firm introduced the GSR Crypto Core3 ETF, trading under the ticker BESO on Nasdaq, as it seeks to capture growing investor demand for diversified crypto access. Notably, the fund combines exposure to three leading cryptocurrencies while integrating yield opportunities, marking a shift from single-asset offerings that have dominated the U.S. market. Core3 allocates capital across Bitcoin, Ether, and Solana, three assets that reflect distinct but complementary market roles. Bitcoin continues to act as a macro-driven store of value, while Ether and Solana support expanding blockchain ecosystems. Consequently, the ETF aims to balance stability with growth potential through this combination.

Circle-backed infrastructure signals continued stablecoin adoption growth.

Stablecoin infrastructure is gaining institutional traction as firms expand blockchain-based payment rails across emerging markets. Payments firm Moneygram International Inc. announced on April 22 an extended partnership with the Stellar Development Foundation (SDF), targeting broader real-world stablecoin utility and faster, lower-cost cross-border transactions.

The expanded agreement outlines a multi-year effort to grow digital asset settlement capabilities using USD Coin (USDC) across key remittance regions. Revealed during an industry gathering in Mexico City, the initiative increases access to the company's stablecoin-enabled services throughout Latin America.

"Everyone talks about financial inclusion. Moneygram is delivering it," Chairman and CEO Anthony Soohoo stated, adding:

"We are building an open payments network that moves seamlessly across fiat and stablecoin, enabling faster, lower-cost transactions, starting with the people who need it most."
The executive also shared on social media platform X: "Five years ago, we started turning stablecoins into real-world money infrastructure for the billions of people without access to traditional financial services. Colombia was the first market. Today, we are bringing this to El Salvador, with many more markets across the world to follow this year." The firm continues integrating blockchain rails with traditional infrastructure to support faster global payments.

The rollout builds on prior deployments in Colombia, where users can receive funds in a USD-denominated balance, hold digital dollars, or convert to cash. The service has now reached El Salvador, with further expansion planned acros

Today in crypto, UK fintech Stratiphy has reopened tax-efficient access to crypto ETNs via ISA restructuring. In parallel, Uzbekistan has launched a regulated mining zone in Karakalpakstan with long-term tax incentives. 

Meanwhile, crypto hacks have surpassed $17 billion, with private key compromises as the leading cause, and the UK is advancing payment reforms to bring stablecoins and tokenized deposits under a unified regulatory framework.
UK-based fintech firm Stratiphy has introduced a new route for retail investors to access crypto exchange-traded notes (ETNs) without tax liability. The move follows a series of regulatory adjustments that had previously limited access.

For context, the Financial Conduct Authority lifted its four-year ban on retail crypto ETNs in October 2025. Initially, investors were able to hold these products inside standard stocks-and-shares ISAs, which provided tax benefits.

However, the situation shifted at the start of the 2026 tax year, after HM Revenue & Customs determined that new crypto ETN investments would no longer qualify for these ISAs.

Instead, eligibility moved to Innovative Finance (IF) ISAs, which are typically used for peer-to-peer lending. This created a gap in the market, as no major platform offered ETNs within IF ISA wrappers.

According to the Financial Times, Stratiphy has now stepped in to fill this gap by offering access to three ETNs issued by 21Shares. These include Bitcoin-linked and Ethereum-linked products, as well as a hybrid Bitcoin–gold instrument.
Meanwhile, in Central Asia, Uzbekistan has taken a significant step toward formalizing its crypto mining industry. This includes the creation of a state-backed mining zone in Karakalpakstan.
