NFT bull Steve Aoki sells his SHIB, ETH, and PEPE. His Bored Apes are down 88%.

Steve Aoki told CoinDesk in August 2021 that NFTs would be "part of culture" within five years. Almost exactly five years later, he is liquidating what's left of his crypto portfolio.

Arkham Intelligence data shows Aoki's wallet sold 1.785 billion SHIB for roughly $10,300 and swapped 7.25 ETH for approximately $15,900 on Monday, routing $29,650 in USDT to Gemini. Two weeks earlier, the same wallet sold 4.155 billion PEPE through 1inch for $14,700. Smaller stablecoin movements of $600 to $1,700 through MetaMask filled in the gaps between the larger exits.

These sales are pocket change but the losses are not.

Aoki paid over $800,000 for seven Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs during the 2021 boom when he was one of the most visible celebrity advocates for the space.

Those seven Apes are now worth approximately $13,800 each, or roughly $97,000 total, an 88% decline from his purchase price. He has not sold them, but at current floor prices there is little left to recover.

At the peak of the $NFT mania, Aoki secured financing for "Dominion X," an $NFT TV show produced in collaboration with Seth Green's Stoopid Buddy Stoodios.

The show sold 500 NFTs in 30 seconds on Nifty Gateway. His manager told CoinDesk the sale "barely covered" production costs but demonstrated a market for "original IP on the blockchain."

The show never reached broadcast.

The broader $NFT market confirms the pattern. Bored Ape floor prices have fallen from over $400,000 in early 2022 to under $14,000 today. The 2023–2025 bull market, which lifted Bitcoin to all-time highs above $126,000, largely bypassed NFTs entirely. Unlike previous cycles, capital has increasingly favored projects demonstrating clear utility and portfolio value over purely narrative-driven or speculative assets.

The SEC has dramatically changed its tune on the crypto sector in the last two years, with the sector growing in importance and relevance in traditional finance. Under the new Chair, Paul Atkins, the securities regulator is now mostly pro-crypto, with several rule changes lessening the chokehold on the industry being passed in the last year.

South Korean payments provider NHN KCP to build own Layer 1 on Avalanche
South Korean payment service provider NHN has partnered with Avalanche’s Ava Labs to build a payments-focused Layer 1 network.

The two will also jointly pursue business opportunities in tokenized deposits, stablecoins, and cross-border payments.
NHN KCP, a South Korean payment service provider, has signed a memorandum of understanding with Ava Labs to develop a payments-focused Layer 1 network.

NHN, together with the developer behind Avalanche, aims to establish a mainnet for real-world payment use cases, utilizing Ava Cloud — Ava Labs' service that enables companies to launch and manage their own L1 blockchains.

According to a statement shared with The Block, the partnership will focus on three key pillars: ultra-fast payment authorization with sub-one-second payment processing, onchain encryption of transaction data, and a payment ecosystem with customizable infrastructure for merchants.

"This agreement is highly significant as it combines NHN KCP's industry-leading payment operational expertise with world-class blockchain technology to derive an innovative model that can be immediately applied to real-world business," said Jun-seok Park, CEO of NHN KCP.

The two companies plan to verify the technical feasibility of the joint project through a proof-of-concept and expand their connections with global financial and payment companies.

In a response to The Block's inquiry, Ava Labs Head of Asia Justin Kim said the launch date for the upcoming L1 largely depends on the passage of the pending crypto regulation in South Korea.

In addition to building the L1, NHN and Ava Labs said they will jointly explore new business opportunities in digital commerce, including tokenized deposit models, multi-stablecoin settlement structures, and cross-border payments.
