Surprisingly, all the drama started last weekend, which is usually a calmer period for financial markets. Except for cryptocurrencies, of course, since it is open 24/7.
President Trump’s new taxes on Canada, China, and Mexico triggered a massive panic across the market. On Saturday night and Sunday, BTC fell from $102,000 to below $100,000 to $97,000. It finally took a breather on Sunday afternoon, but the bears were back in control of the market on Monday morning.
Within a few hours, BTC fell sharply, falling below $92,000 for the first time in about two weeks. As a result, Bitcoin lost $10,000 in 24 hours and about $15,000 since it broke through $106,000 last Friday.
However, after a multi-week low, the cryptocurrency rebounded and jumped above $100,000 and then back to $102,000, completing another $10,000 gain in a matter of hours. Nevertheless, it failed to maintain the six-digit range and moved lower in the following days. It approached the $96,000 support line several times but has remained above it so far.
A few hours ago, BTC rose by a few thousand dollars on the back of the US jobs data and touched $100,000 for the first time since Monday. However, it could not maintain the momentum and is now back below $100,000. The weekly chart is quite painful for most altcoins. Ethereum is down 17% and is trading well below $2,800. XRP plunged 18% to below $2.5, while DOGE, ADA, LINK, AVAX, and SUI plunged more than 20%.
In fact, OM is the only altcoin with a larger market cap that has gained. Its price has risen 18% since Friday, well above $6.
Bitcoin Rises to $100,000 as Mexico and US Suspend Tariffs As mentioned above, trading has been volatile this week due to Trump’s tariffs on a number of countries, which have led to a major market crash. However, the suspension of the agreement between the United States and Mexico sent Bitcoin soaring late Monday, surging to $100,000 at one point.
