On September 7, the cryptocurrency $XRP gained new widespread recognition when the Kansas Jayhawks football team published a season-opening video following their 51-6 victory over Long Island University.
The video footage was shot during Kansas' match on September 4 at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium. This marked one of the first notable appearances of $XRP in football since the Kansas Athletics department signed a multi-year sponsorship deal with Ripple in July.
The official post by the Kansas football team mentioned the cryptocurrency $XRP and included footage from the victory. This mention was part of the existing commercial partnership, not a separate promotional campaign announced after the game.
With this win, Kansas improved its record to 1-0. Long Island suffered its second loss (0-2). The result itself had no apparent connection to the market price of $XRP or activity on the $XRP Ledger.
In a match review prepared by Kansas Athletics, the game was described as a convincing season-opening victory. The $XRP branding gained significant visibility through the Kansas players' uniforms and subsequent social media content celebrating the outcome.
Ripple's Agreement with Kansas Extends to All Sports Teams
On July 8, the University of Kansas Athletics Department announced a partnership with Ripple. The organization of the agreement involved Learfield, a company-owned university affiliate operating in the local branch.
All University of Kansas sports teams' uniforms will feature a patch with the $XRP logo. The University of Kansas called this agreement the first integration of a cryptocurrency logo into the uniforms of a major university sports program.
The university's statement did not disclose the financial terms of the sponsorship. It only indicated that the deal is multi-year.
Ripple entered into a five-year sponsorship agreement with the University of Kansas, expanding the recognition of $XRP within a major NCAA Division I sports program.
The partnership also includes financial and technology education for student-athletes and the wider university community. Kansas stated that the programs will cover traditional finance, digital assets, and blockchain technology.
Ripple and Kansas also plan to support employment opportunities connecting graduates with the technology sector. A schedule for specific classes, events, or employment programs has not yet been published.
Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse is a graduate of the University of Kansas. He grew up in Topeka, providing a direct link between the company's sponsorship and the state and university.
The university did not state whether student-athletes will receive $XRP, use the $XRP Ledger, or promote cryptocurrency investments. The confirmed agreement focuses on branding, education, and career development.
University of Kansas Expands $XRP Partnership Beyond Jersey Production
On September 2, the University of Kansas Athletics Department launched the Rock Chalk fan club as part of its digital engagement strategy. The university described this online community as "powered by $XRP."
The fan club provides access to exclusive content, merchandise purchasing opportunities, and other member benefits. Kansas has not announced that membership requires cryptocurrency or an $XRP wallet.
This distinction is important because the visible presence of $XRP as a brand does not automatically mean the university uses the asset as a payment method. The University of Kansas has not confirmed payments for tickets, merchandise, concessions, or donations in $XRP.
Nevertheless, this partnership introduces the token to an audience beyond traditional cryptocurrency markets. College sports reach students, alumni, TV viewers, and fans who may not regularly interact with blockchain-based products.
Ripple's sports strategy also creates a distinction between the company and the promoted token. Ripple develops blockchain-based financial services and owns $XRP, while $XRP functions as its own asset on the open-source $XRP Ledger.
The branding agreement specifically uses $XRP, not just the corporate name Ripple. Thus, the digital asset gains direct visibility within the regulated and commercially developed US sports environment.
Florida Becomes Ripple's Second University Sports Partner
On September 4, Ripple expanded its presence in college sports by announcing a separate multi-year agreement with the University of Florida Athletics Department.
Under this agreement, the $XRP logo will be displayed on the field at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. The branding will also be featured on Florida Athletics digital assets, signage, and other promotional venues.
The Florida Athletics Department's official press release confirmed that Ripple will provide support for financial and technology education for student-athletes and university community members.
In a similar campaign, Ripple placed $XRP branding on its football stadium, expanding its US college sports activities beyond Kansas.
The Kansas and Florida agreements use different logo placement methods. Kansas places $XRP patches on the uniforms of all sports teams, while Florida uses the logo on the football field, signage, and digital channels.
Neither university disclosed the value of their agreement. Ripple also did not state whether it plans to attract more university sports team partners for the 2026 season.
Kansas's next football game is against Missouri on September 11 at 7:00 PM Central Time. The Border Showdown match will be another public presentation of the uniform featuring the $XRP logo.
On September 8, $XRP was trading around $1.38, down approximately 2% over 24 hours. Confirmed market data does not link this movement to the Kansas video, its victory, or Ripple's college sports sponsorships.
