Federal Judge Rules AI-Generated Art Not Eligible for Copyright Protection

A federal judge has ruled that AI-generated images cannot be copyrighted under the name of the AI itself. Stephen Thaler, CEO of Imagination Engines, had attempted to have art created by his AI tool, the Creativity Machine, copyrighted under the federal agency in 2018. However, the United States Copyright Office denied the registration, stating that human authorship was necessary for copyright protection.
