Fed Chair Waller Appoints Two Conservative Advisors

06/02 21:20

On June 3, Federal Reserve Chair Waller appointed two external advisors to assist him in his early tenure. One of them was involved in drafting a conservative policy blueprint that recommends comprehensive structural reforms for the Federal Reserve. According to informed sources, one of the advisors is Paul Winfree, who served as a domestic policy expert in the Trump administration. He is also a co-author of the chapter on the Federal Reserve in the '2025 Plan,' a conservative policy blueprint developed ahead of the 2024 election. The other advisor is Daniel Heil, a policy researcher at Stanford University's Hoover Institution, who was an economic policy advisor for the 2016 presidential campaign. His recent writings have focused on reducing federal healthcare spending and Social Security issues. Both have been active in conservative policy circles for a long time, and their professional backgrounds lie outside the core responsibilities of the Federal Reserve. An informed source stated that these two advisors will work as temporary contractors to assist Waller with policy analysis and planning; Waller has not yet made a final decision regarding their potential long-term, formal positions within the Federal Reserve.
