Risk-on peace trades are back in vogue after the U.S. and Iran held fire on Sunday, sending oil prices lower.

Bitcoin $BTC$65,250.07, the leading cryptocurrency by market value, is back above $65,000, with prices up about 1.2% over 24 hours. Ether (ETH) has risen by over 3% to nearly $1,950 alongside 1% to 2% gains in other top 10 token, including solana (SOL) and $XRP ($XRP).

Futures tied to WTI gapped lower on Monday, trading around 5% lower at $85 as of this writing, while those linked to Nasdaq and S&P 500 traded half a percent higher. Currency markets also showed risk-on trends, with the Aussie dollar and euro gaining against the U.S. dollar.

The United States and Iran paused military strikes against each other for a second consecutive day, creating room for a diplomatic breakthrough. The war, which began in late February, entered a fragile ceasefire in the second quarter, but it quickly unraveled.

Iran reportedly said that it would continue to halt airstrikes as long as the U.S. did the same, marking a tenous start of what appears to be yet another peace process.

"Prices are also responding to macro developments," Vikram Subburaj, CEO of India-based FIU-registered Giottus exchange, said in an email.
Brent crude’s 4.7% fall to $92.19 has eased some inflation concerns, but the July 28-29 Federal Reserve meeting remains the immediate risk. Markets are assigning a 36.3% probability to a 25-basis-point rate increase,"

Subburaj added that ether's over 3% gain shows some rotation into alternative cryptocurrencies, although $BTC's dominance at 58.6% shows this is not yet a broad-based altcoin trend.

Short-term price surges are usually followed by some short-term retracement, especially during periods of elevated uncertainty. So far, market sentiment has not improved to support more upside.

Nevertheless, other market factors do come into play when determining the next potential outcome. For example, the level of activity in the derivatives market compared to the spot market.

In Shiba Inu Crypto’s case, the recent rally was backed by robust spot positioning. CryptoQuant revealed that the rally was supported by healthy accumulation, judging by the surge in active addresses over the last few days.

There were about 1,630 active addresses on 19 July, but that number has since surged to over 3,150 addresses as of 25 July. Almost double within a few days.

The derivatives segment also demonstrated significant interest among traders. For example, SHIB open interest surged from around $30 million on 20 July to about $48 million at press time.

A relatively modest gain, but derivatives volumes lagged on Saturday, confirming that spot activity was prominent. However, the last 24 hours saw a 2,000% plus surge in derivatives, accompanied by a spike in negative funding rates.

The surge in negative funding rates suggests that derivatives traders anticipated a retracement. However, the spot accumulation could also indicate that traders might be positioning for more recovery in the coming months.

July’s Consumer Confidence data is due on Tuesday, which reflects how consumers are spending. This is followed by the week’s big event on Wednesday when the Fed announces its rate decision and Fed Chair Kevin Warsh holds a press conference, setting policy direction.

The meeting comes amid growing uncertainty about tech sector valuations, AI infrastructure spending, and economic growth trajectory amid a backdrop of inflationary pressures.

The market “feels very frothy,” Kristina Hooper, chief market strategist at Man Group, told Reuters. “Investors are, to a certain extent, walking on eggshells, and they’re more likely to react negatively to any signs of imperfection.”

Odds of rates remaining the same have fallen to 63.7% on the CME Fed watch tool, which now predicts a 36.3% chance of an increase.

July’s PCE inflation data is due on Thursday, followed by the Michigan Consumer Sentiment data and Inflation Expectations data on Friday.

Meanwhile, more than 15% of S&P 500 companies, including Microsoft, Meta, Apple, and Amazon, are reporting earnings this week.

Cross-chain bridging and atomic swap protocol Garden Finance temporarily took its app offline after blockchain security firm Blockaid reported an exploit targeting the protocol’s hash time-locked contracts (HTLC) across four blockchain networks.

On Sunday, Blockaid said an attacker drained about $450,000 in USDT from Garden’s HTLC contracts on Ethereum, Base, Arbitrum and BNB Smart Chain. HTLCs are time-bound escrow contracts that Garden uses to facilitate atomic swaps between Bitcoin and assets on other networks.

Blockaid described the exploit as ongoing when it published its alert but did not disclose the suspected vulnerability or say whether the incident affected user funds. Blockaid’s alert included addresses associated with the attacker and the affected contracts.

Garden said separately that it had detected “unusual activity” and was conducting a full investigation while its app remained temporarily offline.

Garden Finance and Blockaid acknowledged Cointelegraph’s request for comments.

The incident follows an October 2025 breach in which an attacker stole about $11.4 million after compromising the operating environment of one of Garden’s solvers. Garden said that breach did not affect its protocol contracts or put user funds at risk.

A fresh round of legal battles has erupted over US President Donald Trump’s latest tariff measures, with several small businesses challenging the administration’s decision to impose new import duties on goods from dozens of trading partners. The lawsuits argue that the White House has once again exceeded its legal authority by introducing sweeping tariffs under a different law after the US Supreme Court struck down an earlier version.

The latest challenges were filed in the US Court of International Trade shortly after the new tariffs came into effect. One lawsuit was brought by educational toy company Learning Resources, which had also challenged Trump’s earlier tariff policy. Another was filed by New York-based spice importer Burlap & Barrel and California watch retailer Collective Horology, represented by the Liberty Justice Center.

The businesses argue that the administration failed to justify the tariffs individually for each country affected. They also claim the government did not adequately explain how the duties would address the alleged use of forced labor, a requirement under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974.

According to the lawsuits, the latest tariffs effectively replace the worldwide duties that were invalidated by the Supreme Court earlier this year. The challengers contend that changing the legal basis for the tariffs does not resolve the concerns raised by the court over presidential authority.
