Anniversary Stacks Bitcoin Staking Upgrade Vote Passes With 99%, Muneeb Says

The Stacks community approved SIP-045, the Bitcoin Staking upgrade, with more than 99% of votes cast in favor, Stacks co-creator Muneeb Ali said, setting up a hard fork targeted for around July 29 at roughly Bitcoin block 907,740.

The upgrade, formally "PoX-5: Bitcoin Staking and Emission Schedule Alignment," lets participants lock $BTC in a timelocked contract on Bitcoin's base layer - under their own keys - and pair it with locked $STX to earn yield paid in bitcoin. A companion proposal, SIP-044, which brings Clarity 6 and new staking post-conditions, passed alongside it. Voting opened July 6; hard-fork votes require at least 80% approval from stacked $STX.

"Bitcoin is the world's most trusted asset precisely because of its design and safety principles on the L1," Ali said when the Bitcoin Staking whitepaper was published in May. "Holders can now earn yield denominated in $BTC, trustlessly, while their Bitcoin stays exactly where it belongs.'

How the Mechanism Works

Stakers fund a timelocked UTXO on Bitcoin using OP_CHECKLOCKTIMEVERIFY, pair it with an $STX lock equal to at least 5% of the bond, and commit for roughly six months. The Stacks contract verifies the Bitcoin-side lock with an SPV proof - no custodian or trusted bridge. Yield

Robinhood in talks with Crypto.com over prediction markets: WSJ
The company behind the cryptocurrency and stock trading app, Robinhood, is reportedly discussing plans to expand its existing prediction markets offering with crypto exchange Crypto.com.

According to a Friday Wall Street Journal report citing people familiar with the matter, Robinhood was in talks with Crypto.com to place yes-or-no event contracts supplied by the exchange. The trading company launched its prediction markets hub in March 2025, initially facilitated by Kalshi in order to comply with regulatory requirements from the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), and later using ForecastEx and Rotella.

The reported move came just days after Bernstein analysts raised the firm’s price target on Robinhood (HOOD) stock to $160 from $130 per share, based on the company’s outlook for prediction markets and tokenized equities. They predicted Robinhood’s revenue using prediction markets could reach $1.7 billion by 2028.

While Bernstein said in April that volumes in prediction markets could reach $1 trillion by 2030, many of the platforms face ongoing legal challenges in the United States between state and federal authorities. The CFTC has claimed to have “exclusive jurisdiction” over the companies’ event contracts, while gaming authorities in many states have filed lawsuits attempting to block or restrict their activities.

Bittensor’s [$TAO] price action has been pretty interesting lately. Despite appearing in the trending tokens list, $TAO fell consistently on the daily charts. In the last 24 hours alone, it lost more than 2% of its value. Its daily volume of $90 million followed a similar trend too.

In fact, the liquidity levels suggested that $TAO may be making lower lows, while on the charts the altcoin seemed to be forming a base for a potential reversal. Hence, the question: Can $TAO bounce back from $180 as it did before?

$TAO joins trending tokens list as volume spikes

According to CoinGecko, $TAO made it to the list of the market’s top trending tokens, ranked at position seven. DeXe [DEXE], Pudgy Penguins [PENGU], and Zama Protocol [ZAMA] were some of the other tokens in this list.

This resulted in an increase in chain activity, as evidenced by the real-time transaction volume. The last 200 transactions on the network saw more than 100 $TAO tokens traded at a time.

$TAO liquidity to shape the next move

That’s not all though as liquidity apparently influenced $TAO’s price moves more than its on-chain activity.

Over the last few days, for instance, heavier liquidity was stacked between $220 and $255, while the closest downside cluster was between $185 and $190. Some of the heavier shorts have since been closed, with the concentration now between $195 and $205.

Below the $185-$190 range, the clusters have been losing relevance as larger long liquidations occur and migrate the liquidity lower. At the time of writing, they sat between $168 and $175, with more weight around $160-$165.

This implied that both bears and bulls may have repositioned, with shorts moving closer to the price while longs moved deeper.

The figures interrupted a period of sustained inflows and shifted attention toward whether large investors had started locking in profits.

However, one trading session rarely defines a broader trend, especially after weeks of consistent institutional accumulation.

Instead, the latest withdrawal suggested that some investors had adopted a more cautious stance near key price resistance.

As a result, Ethereum faced greater scrutiny because sustained ETF outflows could reduce institutional demand and weaken bullish sentiment if similar withdrawals continued over the coming sessions.

Ethereum ETFs led crypto funds that drew cash last week.

Bitcoin stayed positive but posted its weakest inflow week in three.

Hyperliquid ETFs were the only product to bleed, for a second week.

Ethereum (ETH) exchange-traded funds pulled in $103.9 million in the week ending July 24, the most of any spot crypto ETF and a third straight positive week for the product.

Other major spot crypto ETFs drew fresh cash over the same five trading days. The inflows were broad but mostly small, and Ethereum outpaced every rival by a wide margin.

Ethereum ETFs Hold a Steady Recovery According to SoSoValue data, Ethereum ETFs recorded weekly inflows of $84 million, $105 million, and $103.9 million across the past three weeks. The pace stayed firm rather than fading. Bitcoin ETFs, by contrast, saw their streak shrink from $197 million to $75.6 million to $33.79 million.

The shrinking figure came as the funds logged two negative daily prints, losing $225 million on July 23 and $240 million on July 24. Weekly trading volume fell to about $8 billion, the lowest since mid-April 2025.

Ethereum showed a similar late-week dip, with a $70.6 million outflow on July 24. However, the weekly total stayed positive and led the group.

Every token sold carries a 12-month lockup, limiting immediate sales from the new investors.
