Metaplanet adds 5,075 bitcoin, bringing total holdings to 40,177 BTC to become third-largest among public companies

Metaplanet said it held 40,177 BTC as of March 31, making it the third-largest publicly traded corporate holder of the foremost cryptocurrency.

The company reported a “BTC Yield” of 2.8% for the period from January 1 to March 31, down from 11.9% in the prior quarter and 33% in Q3 2025.

Metaplanet CEO Simon Gerovich said on Thursday the Tokyo-based firm acquired 5,075 bitcoin (BTC) during the first quarter of 2026 for around $405.5 million, bringing its total treasury to 40,177 BTC as of March 31.

The latest acquisition positions Metaplanet as the third-largest bitcoin holder among publicly traded companies globally, according to BitcoinTreasuries data. The firm now trails only Strategy, which holds 762,099 BTC, and Tether-backed Twenty One, with 43,514 BTC.

According to a company notice, the additional 5,075 BTC were purchased at an average price of approximately $79,898 per coin. This brings Metaplanet’s total investment in the world’s largest crypto by market cap to roughly $4.2 billion, with a cumulative average purchase price of $104,106 per bitcoin.

The firm noted that its "bitcoin income" business generated sales of 2,969 million yen ($18.6 million) in Q1, utilizing options strategies to lower its effective acquisition costs.

“Within this framework, the revenue generated by the income business will be used as part of our bitcoin acquisition funds, potentially contributing to a reduction in the effective acquisition cost of bitcoin acquired during the same period,” the notice said.

The company reported a "BTC Yield" of 2.8% for the three months ended March 31. That metric measures the percentage change in the ratio of total bitcoin holdings to fully diluted shares outstanding. "

Morgan Stanley Signals Bitcoin ETF Near Launch After Amendment 4 Update

Morgan Stanley Bitcoin Trust filed Amendment No. 4 to its S-1 with the SEC on April 1, setting a sponsor fee of 0.14% and a 50,000-share seed basket.

NYSE Arca certified listing approval for the trust on March 25, 2026, clearing a key exchange-level hurdle.

The registration statement remains preliminary, and public sales cannot begin until the SEC declares it effective.

The preliminary prospectus filed April 1 states that shares of the Morgan Stanley Bitcoin Trust are anticipated to be listed on NYSE Arca and expected to trade under the ticker symbol MSBT. The filing sets the delegated sponsor fee at an annualized 0.14% of the trust's net asset value.

In an X post, Diana stated that Evernorth is officially launching XRP lending on the XRPL, which would unlock $100 billion in capital. The treasury firm plans to bring native lending on the Ledger through the proposed XLS-66 amendment. She added that there are already 473 million of the altcoin in the treasury and that there is a vision to unlock up to $100 billion in dormant capital through yield-generating activity.

Further commenting on what this native lending entails, Diana noted that it is built directly into the Ledger and will feature single-asset vaults, fixed-term and fixed-rate loans, automated on-chain repayments through smart contracts, and zero-knowledge proofs for confidentiality. Furthermore, this native lending feature eliminates the need to bridge, wrap XRP, or face custody risks just to earn yield on one's holdings.

Diana highlighted how this could draw more institutional investors as they can finally deploy liquidity without leaving the Ledger or relying on external smart contracts.
