Latest developments: Edelman told CoinDesk's Jennifer Sanasie on Markets Outlook that the dispute over whether stablecoins can offer yield is threatening progress on market structure legislation.

Banking groups argue allowing stablecoin issuers to offer yield would siphon deposits from traditional banks.

Edelman said banks are opposing the provision largely because stablecoins pose a competitive threat to their business models.

The issue has become a sticking point in negotiations around the Clarity Act, a proposed crypto market structure bill in Washington.

Despite siding with crypto on the economics, Edelman said the banking lobby is politically strong and “likely to win the argument.”

Why it matters: Edelman argues the industry should compromise rather than risk losing regulatory clarity altogether.

“I don’t think it’s the hill to die on,” Edelman said about the fight over stablecoin yield.

He said the broader legislation would provide long-awaited regulatory certainty for crypto companies and investors.

Prediction markets currently suggest the bill will pass, he said, though the timeline remains uncertain.

Edelman warned the bill could stall if it doesn’t pass before midterm elections.

The market outlook: Edelman believes regulatory clarity could quickly revive crypto markets.

If the bill fails, he expects a sharp but temporary drop in crypto prices as investors react.

Over the long term, crypto would still grow but at a slower pace without supportive legislation.

If clarity arrives, Edelman predicts crypto prices could surge and quickly reach new all-time highs.

He reiterated his long-term forecast that bitcoin could reach $500,000 by the end of the decade.

Elsewhere, on the weekly chart, Dogecoin is attempting to stabilize after a prolonged downtrend that followed its previous rally. Price action remains below several key Fibonacci retracement levels derived from the earlier upward move, with the 0.786 retracement around $0.1678, the 0.618 level near $0.1975, and the 0.382 zone close to $0.2392 all acting as overhead resistance.
The market previously broke below the 1.0 Fibonacci extension level around $0.1300, which historically serves as an important structural support area. DOGE is now attempting to reclaim this $0.1300 level, which could determine whether the market begins forming a stronger recovery structure.

Further, the Average True Range on the weekly timeframe continues trending downward toward 0.027, signaling that volatility has been gradually decreasing. This contraction often reflects a period of reduced market activity before a larger directional move develops.

If Dogecoin successfully regains the $0.1300 Fibonacci extension, the next potential recovery targets could emerge toward the $0.167–$0.197 region. Failure to reclaim this level may leave the asset consolidating in the lower support zone.

Starknet introduces STRK20 private tokens to enable anonymous transfers

Starknet has introduced STRK20, a new token standard designed to bring native privacy to ERC-20 assets on the network, allowing balances and transfers to remain hidden while still enabling interaction with decentralized finance protocols.

The launch aims to address one of the long-standing limitations of public blockchains. Every transaction on a typical network exposes the wallet address, amount, counterparty, and timestamp on a permanent public ledger. While transparency is core to blockchain design, it has also discouraged enterprises and institutions from adopting onchain financial systems.

STRK20 enables any ERC-20 token on Starknet to operate with private balances and transfers by default. Instead of relying on wrapped assets or separate privacy layers, the feature is integrated directly at the token level.

The system is built around the Starknet Privacy Pool. Users deposit tokens into the pool, conduct transactions privately within it, and withdraw when needed.

Transfers inside the pool reveal no information about the sender, receiver, or amount to outside observers. Each transaction is verified using zero-knowledge proofs, ensuring validity without exposing sensitive data.

The architecture is designed to preserve composability with the broader DeFi ecosystem. Starknet said STRK20 tokens will support features such as anonymous swaps and staking from launch.

One of the first integrations will be with the decentralized exchange Ekubo. Users will be able to swap tokens directly from the privacy pool without linking their wallet address to the trade. While the trade’s effect on liquidity pools remains visible, the identity of the trader is hidden.
