Bitcoin-Funded ‘Satoshi Scholarship’ Opens Lomond School Doors to Global Students

Lomond School deepens its Bitcoin integration with a fully funded “Satoshi Scholarship,” turning its campus into a live experiment in Bitcoin-powered education.
Lomond School in Helensburgh, Scotland has launched a fully funded “Satoshi Scholarship,” extending its experiment with Bitcoin from the payments desk into the heart of school life. 

The award will cover two years of tuition and boarding at Burnbrae, the school’s boarding house, for one student who would struggle to access this kind of education without support. 

Applications are open worldwide, with a deadline of May 24.

The scholarship follows a year of rapid change at Lomond, which became the first school in the world to accept Bitcoin for tuition from Autumn 2025. Some parents already pay fees in Bitcoin, and the school has begun building a BTC treasury funded by donations from supporters in the wider Bitcoin community. 

School leaders describe this as the early stage of a savings strategy shaped by ideas of sound money and long term financial resilience that run through Bitcoin culture.

BTC now runs through the campus in more literal ways as well. Lomond operates its own node and several mining units, which both support the Bitcoin network and supply heat to classrooms. 

A live mempool display in the study and library gives students and staff a window onto transaction activity on the network, turning an abstract protocol into something they see during the school day.

Bitcoin Watch: A Daily Close Above This Key Level Could Push BTC Toward $94,000Bitcoin ($BTC) has staged a notable 21% recovery over the thirty-day timeframe, pushing the largest cryptocurrency in the market above the $81,000 level for the first time since January. Now, $BTC is approaching one key resistance, which—if surpassed with a daily close—could open the door to another leg higher.

Bitcoin Targets $89,000 And $94,000
Technical analyst Ali Martinez pointed to this momentum in a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), arguing that Bitcoin continues to show “structural strength.”

Martinez referenced a bullish Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) crossover on Bitcoin’s weekly chart that occurred on April 13. Since that weekly signal appeared, $BTC has gained roughly 15% in a relatively steady grind, reinforcing the idea that the trend may be shifting rather than just bouncing randomly.

What makes the weekly Bitcoin MACD crossover particularly notable is how it has behaved historically. According to Martinez’s recap of earlier instances, the same kind of crossover preceded major multi-month rallies in prior cycles.

The October 23, 2023 crossover was followed by a 147% rally. Another example on October 14, 2024 led to a 75% rise, while the May 5, 2025 crossover resulted in a 35% rally.

Even with the broader bullish backdrop, the near-term chart still presents a key test. Martinez highlighted that Bitcoin is moving into the vicinity of the 200-day simple moving average (200SMA), currently around $83,000.

He described this area as the most important psychological and structural barrier on the daily chart. In his view, a clean daily close above this level could open the door to a macro expansion, first toward $89,000, with a secondary target near $94,000.

The tokenized commodities market has grown to $7 billion, up nearly 600% from the start of 2025. Jesse Knutson, Head of Operations, Bitfinex Securities, wrote that the rising tokenized commodities adoption isn’t just about new demand.

It is helping morph commodities into mobile, flexible assets that enable “responsive risk management” in the increasingly volatile geopolitical climate, he wrote in mid-April.

Strategy (MSTR), the world’s largest publicly traded corporate holder of bitcoin, floated the idea of selling bitcoin in order to cover its dividend obligations.
Executive Chairman Michael Saylor suggested, during its Q1 2026 earnings call, the company may sell a portion of its bitcoin holdings to fund dividend payments, stating: “We will probably sell some bitcoin to pay a dividend just to inoculate the market and send the message that we did it.”

The company disclosed a $12.54 billion net loss for Q4, while maintaining a total bitcoin position of 818,334 BTC at an average acquisition cost of $75,537 per coin.

Strategy has an outstanding dividend obligation of approximately $1.5 billion, including annualized preferred stock dividends and interest on outstanding debt. The firm has roughly 18 months of dividend coverage, based on its USD reserves relative to these obligations.

Saylor described the model as leveraging credit to acquire Bitcoin, allowing it to appreciate, and then selectively selling portions of the asset to meet dividend commitments.

"You buy bitcoin with credit, you let it appreciate, and then you sell bitcoin to pay the dividend.

Following the announcement, Strategy’s stock fell more than 4% in after-hours trading, while bitcoin declined below $81,000.
