Why Saylor Anticipates More Bitcoin Sales

Michael Saylor, Executive Chairman of Strategy Inc. (Nasdaq: MSTR), revealed on July 27 in an X post that future STRC repurchases may be funded through either bitcoin sales or MSTR stock sales, depending on market conditions. STRC is Strategy’s Variable Rate Series A Perpetual Stretch Preferred Stock, carrying a $100 stated amount and a dividend rate that management evaluates monthly.

Bitcoin sales could become an attractive financing option when STRC trades sufficiently below $100, allowing the company to retire preferred shares at a discount.

Saylor said the company aims to keep STRC trading near its $100 stated amount with high liquidity, low volatility, and sustainable independent demand. Under Strategy’s digital credit capital framework, it does not intend to issue additional STRC below $100.

Coinbase Chief Policy Officer Praises Crypto Clarity Act as “Extraordinarily Bipartisan
 

Coinbase’s Chief Policy Officer, Faryar Shirzad, struck an optimistic tone regarding the long-awaited Clarity Act on Monday, claiming there was bipartisan support for the bill in its current form.  

Speaking to Fox Business Monday, Shirzad said it was time for Democrats and Republicans to unite on the Clarity Act — and added that a vote could come as soon as next week. 

“This bill is an extraordinarily bipartisan piece of work,” he said. “It’s ready for final action. We’re very excited it’s going to get done.”

Lawmakers have been mulling over the Clarity Act since last year, which would set in stone crypto regulation. 

A new draft started circulating last week which bans officials and their families from issuing or promoting crypto — something opposition lawmakers previously had issue with. 

But some Democrats are still unhappy with the bill in its current form. A group of Democrats last week said in a statement that the bill in its current form falls short. 

The bill has been in a deadlock this year, partially because banking chiefs raised concerns over stablecoin yield and ethics concerns. 

Banking lobbyists have said that if crypto exchanges pay attractive yields to customers, banks could lose their deposit base. 

“The irony of the situation we’re facing with the banking lobby in Washington is that all the banks are actually moving quickly to adopt crypto and stablecoin in their own systems,” he continued. 

“I think the adoption by the banks tells you that as much as the lobbyists in Washington are resisting change, the long-term plan for the banks at the top is to adopt the technology, and it’ll be a win-win outcome.”

Top U.S. banks — including JP Morgan and Bank of America — have expressed interest or already started debuting stablecoin products, which run on blockchain technology.

Bitcoin may be trading above what some investors expected this year, but according to Charles Schwab’s Head of Crypto Research, Jim Ferraioli, its “fair value” could actually be closer to $95,000.

Ferraioli said his valuation is based primarily on Bitcoin’s mining economics, rather than short-term market sentiment.

“If you were to say what’s the fair value for Bitcoin at these levels, I think it’s probably about $95,000.” He said.

He explained that the most efficient Bitcoin miners currently produce BTC at a cost of around $60,000, while less efficient miners are closer to $95,000. Drawing a comparison with traditional commodity markets, Ferraioli said that producers generally operate on relatively thin margins, making production costs a useful benchmark for estimating fair value.

Notably, the lower mining-cost estimate of around $60,000 represents a potential fundamental support zone. This level also lines up with Bitcoin’s 200-week moving average, which has recently been around the $60,000–$62,000 range.

He also clarified that the figure isn’t a price target, but rather a valuation based on the economics of Bitcoin production.

Ferraioli pointed out that the crypto market is currently in a seasonally weaker period, often referred to as “Bitcoin winter.” However, he added that risk assets have historically performed better toward the end of the year, leaving room for a potential year-end rally if market conditions improve.While Ferraioli said it’s impossible to predict whether Bitcoin will reach $95,000 in the next six months, he said several catalysts that could support higher prices.

“It doesn’t take a lot of flows to move the needle on Bitcoin. This is a supply-constrained asset.” He said.

He says that Bitcoin rallied rapidly from around $60,000 to $83,000 earlier this year, showing how quickly prices can move when demand increases.
