Eligible investors outside the United States gained onchain access to tokenized shares in several major U.S. companies on Aug. 24. Crypto exchange Coinbase (Nasdaq: COIN) issued the securities on Base using the B20 token standard. The tokenized stocks are backed 1:1 by underlying shares held through a regulated custodian in a bankruptcy-remote structure.

The launch includes fractional shares tied to Apple Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL), Nvidia Corp. (Nasdaq: NVDA), Meta Platforms Inc. (Nasdaq: META), and Alphabet Inc. (Nasdaq: GOOGL). Coinbase had previously outlined plans for tokenized stocks with automatic dividends and no synthetic exposure in June. The tokens can be held in self-custody wallets and transferred across supported Base applications.

Chainlink Supplies Continuous Stock Pricing
Continuous pricing from Chainlink allows decentralized exchanges, lending markets, and structured-product platforms to evaluate the tokenized securities outside traditional market hours. Coinbase selected Chainlink as its official oracle infrastructure for products including AAPLc, GOOGLc, METAc, and NVDAc. Oracles deliver external financial data to blockchain applications that cannot retrieve it independently.

The statements of a Bitcoin Core collaborator commenting on the state of bitcoin payments in El Salvador have awakened concerns about the low adoption level of bitcoin in the country, even as it has been globally promoted as the first bitcoin Country after passing the so-called bitcoin law in 2021.

Jon Atack, a Bitcoin Core contributor since 2019 who has been living in El Salvador since 2022 and was temporarily arrested last year, raised concerns among bitcoin proponents on social media when he shared his experience after paying with bitcoin in El Zonte, a Salvadoran region known as an adoption hotspot.

“Lunched in El Zonte (Bitcoin Beach) today. After I paid, they told me it was the first bitcoin payment there all month, going on to describe how before, they used to see many payments in bitcoin, and that now it’s practically non existent. Pretty depressing,” Atack declared.

He added that after asking about how most customers paid, he was told that almost all customers paid by card.

“I then asked if she wanted a tip in sats, but she had forgotten how to use her bitcoin app and didn’t really want any: ‘It’s dead,'” he said.

Atack stressed that this observation was anecdotal, but highlighted that the person had worked there for three years and had seen the evolution of payments in the zone.

Atack’s remarks awakened positive and negative reactions, with some even refuting his experience. Juan Galt, a bitcoin reporter, recognized that there was “an economics problem at hand and no one seems to be taking it seriously,” assessing that an altruistic behavior was needed for bitcoin payments to push a circular economy, but that, given the expectation of bitcoin going up in price, this behavior was “counter-economic” at its core.

With Dusk, “privacy blockchain” initially made me think mostly about private transactions. After digging further, I’m starting to see a broader picture around regulated onchain finance.

One recent update caught my attention: Dusk’s August developer activity included work on zk-tools, including Solidity verifier tooling and Groth16 verification support, alongside stronger proof-validation checks.

That matters to me because it connects the privacy story with actual developer infrastructure, rather than leaving it as a concept.

I also noticed Dusk now presents two development paths: DuskVM for native Rust/WASM contracts and DuskEVM for Solidity/Vyper applications, with a route toward confidential flows through Hedger.

I initially underestimated how important that separation could be. If developers can choose familiar EVM tooling while still accessing Dusk’s settlement and privacy infrastructure, maybe the real challenge becomes deciding where confidentiality should actually live.

The bigger question for me is still unanswered.

How much privacy does a financial application genuinely need, and how much transparency must remain available for regulators, counterparties, and users?

Dusk’s current direction around selective disclosure, confidential transfers, and deterministic settlement makes that question even more interesting.

I’m still researching the technical details, especially how these pieces interact in real applications.

That’s probably where I’ll look next.
